Biden's DOJ drops plans to pay illegal immigrants $450,000 in compensation

Biden's Department of Justice has withdrawn its plan to pay illegal immigrants $450,000 in compensation after having had their families separated at the border during the Trump administration.

Fox News' Petere Doocy asked Deputy Press Sec. why the Biden administration is suspending that plan. "I would refer you to the DOJ," Jean-Pierre said.

Following President Biden's repeated denial that his government would give illegal immigrants separated under Trump up to $450,000, the DOJ has said once and for all that such a payout will never happen.

On Thursday, the DOJ sent out a message to the lawyers of those separated at the border that negotiations over a possible payout were off the table. The American Civil Liberties Union broke the story, taking to Twitter to voice its displeasure.

"Candidate Biden promised to help these children and families," they wrote, "But today, President Biden is shamefully playing politics with their lives and futures. We will never forget who takes action to help these families and who turns their backs on them."

In October, rumors that the Biden administration would pay migrants hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation began floating around, leading to backlash from Republicans.

In November, President Biden called those rumors "garbage," claiming that no such plan was in the works.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

And after first ardently denying such payments were scheduled, when he was informed it was true, old Joe then became a passionate proponent of the plan.

    And now it's kaput.

Finally some sense from the DOJ.

Unless they are saying they won't pay $450K but something less.

I don't think it's "sense" - I think there was so much blowback that they reluctantly backed off of this for now.

I would not be surprised if the mangy pirate is not totally wrong and a little later they announce a flat sum for everyone between $100,000 to $250,000 and brag how they "saved" a bunch of money.

No! We will not be paying $450,000 to illegals!

....they will have to be happy with $449,999.99!

I think there are more than a few Democrats who are waking up to the reality that the Build Back BIGGER plan isn't so popular, and certain provisions of it are downright toxic.

But the MSM insists everyone loves it.

In fact, it was fairly popular when first proposed being supported by a majority of Americans. But that support fell fast as the price tag kept rising. And then some of the stuff secreted into the bill by Pelosi and her band of miscreants started surfacing. Presently the bill is now opposed by a significant majority of Americans with support hovering around 40% from the last I heard.
