The qualification [and caveat] is the word "guarantee".

That's not a caveat though. That's part of the over-generalization, you walnut. Your thread title is an over-generalized statement that was unsupported, that ignores the people for which money has guaranteed happiness.

You have managed to read into the thread title something that is not there.

Where does the thread title state that "money can never guarantee happiness"?

No you just flatly declared that "money canNOT buy happiness" leaving no room for any exception.

You appear to be having yet more issues with reading.

Where does the verb "[to] buy" appear in the thread title?

And where is the "flat declaration" [i.e. declare - to state emphatically]of which you write?

You're correct that you didn't have "buy" in the title (even though that is how the saying/adage actually goes, Ms. Lives-Under-Stones)

But it still does not change the fact that you just flatly declared that "money canNOT guarantee happiness" leaving no room for any exception. None.

You posted one of those over-simplified statements.

What fact? Where is the evidence from what I wrote that supports the above contention? Do you know what "guarantee" means in that context?

The actual sentence reads It seems the old adage is true...money cannot guarantee happiness.

Happiness and unhappiness are relative. Suicide rates are generally higher in wealthy countries, per capita, as opposed to the world's poorest ones.

I wish I could find the quote today but I can't seem to locate it. I believe it was Prince Fahd, regarding his observation of the rising quality of life in Saudi Arabia. It was something like "You can never make the people truly happy, but only give them smaller and smaller things to complain about."

It says "canNOT guarantee happiness". Do you understand what 'not' means? What 'cannot' means? Again, it was a broad over-generalized statement (with a word that leaves no room for exceptions) that was unsupported. Something you regularly criticize others for doing, including just yesterday on another thread. You hypocritical little , can't stand the taste of your own medicine.

And of course that caveat [i.e. that money cannot guarantee happiness] is a fact. It may indeed bring great happiness but it is not an absolute and foregone conclusion that money will bring happiness, as Clay Cockrell makes makes very clear in his op-ed piece.
