But the reporter asked about the payouts to families UP TO $450K, so if that really was the case, Biden could have just objected to the total. Instead he called the whole thing "garbage reporting"

I think this is related: when Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm was asked if there were any plans to increase US oil production in order to offset rising gas prices, she gave a good belly laugh, said, "That is hilarious!" and then proceeded to explain how oil production is controlled by OPEC and, wouldn't you know it, they are restricting production, so there's nothing we can do.
We have utter morons in charge of the country right now. "Elections have consequences" indeed.Last edited by Mountain Man; 11-05-2021, 08:04 PM.Some may call me foolish, and some may call me odd

But then again this is the economist who also declared just the mere election of Trump would immediately send not just the U.S. economy but the entire world economy spiraling immediately into a severe recession. And that the mere election of Trump would promptly cause the stock market to start plunging and from which they would likely never recover. As well as who kept declaring that after the 2008-9 recession that Europe be far stronger than the U.S. economically because of all their socialist welfare state policies.
In any case it doesn't take a NY Times "economist" to realize that old Joe immediately shutdown the Keystone pipeline in his first day in office (while later removing sanctions from Russia's new pipeline), froze new oil/ gas leases around the same time, and he could also open the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to lower prices. That his policies are directly responsible for taking us from an energy exporter back to having to import energy and going hat in hand to beg OPEC to increase production. Before old Joe bungled this up like everything else he's touched, we didn't have to care about OPEC.
Btw, y'all should know that paper's White House correspondent, Jim Tankersley, is pushing old Joe to raise gas prices.
"[W]hy not allow even middle class, uh, people around the world to pay more for gasoline in the hope that they would consume fewer fossil fuels and emit less?"
C'mon Joe! Raise taxes on the middle class. It isn't like you've done enough to them with your ever-rising inflation rate that your policies brought about. Or your gift of empty shelves and a supply line crisis for the Holidays.
Remarkably, old Joe dressed Tankersley down like you would expect an idiot to be dressed down. Imagine the humiliation of needing to have a barely cognizant duffer having to explain basic economics to you.

Some good news, no thanks to Biden
https://www.reuters.com/business/ene...ns-2021-08-31/
Aug 31 (Reuters) - The Biden administration announced plans on Tuesday to open millions of acres for oil and gas exploration as the White House sought to comply with a court order requiring it to resume lease auctions.
The move, which includes some 80 million acres of water in the Gulf of Mexico along with potentially hundreds of thousands more onshore, represents a setback for Democratic President Joe Biden's plans to fight climate change, which included a campaign vow to end new federal oil and gas leasing.
Biden paused drilling auctions after taking office in January pending an analysis of their impacts on the environment and value to taxpayers. That review is ongoing, officials have said.
In June, however, a federal judge in Louisiana ordered a resumption of auctions, saying the government was required by law to offer acreage to the oil and gas industry.
Hopefully the exploration will yield some results in the short term.

Our transportation secretary is doing everything he can to address the supply chain crisis.
No, wait, instead he's complaining about "racist" highways.
The theory is that some highways in the US were built to divide communities by race, and he's going to fix it. Somehow.

It's good to see how the Biden Administration focusing on what is important during a crisis.
Btw, the talk is that the Democrats have pretty much given up on Kamala replacing old Joe as their candidate in 2024 and are now beginning to see Buttigieg as their guy.
