Biden’s Pick For Top Banking Regulator Refuses To Hand Over Thesis On Marxism

    omarovapic-e1634247723131.jpg

Where does he find these people?

Saule Omarova, President Joe Biden’s nominee to head the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), is refusing to hand over to the Senate Banking Committee her university thesis on Marxism written during her time in the Soviet Union.

Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, ranking member of the committee, had sent a letter to Omarova on Oct. 6 asking the Cornell Law School professor to hand over her Moscow State University thesis, titled “Karl Marx’s Economic Analysis and the Theory of Revolution in The Capital,” by Oct. 13, citing the committee’s need to “fully assess the fitness of individuals to serve in Senate-confirmed executive and independent agency positions.”

Omarova, who grew up in the Soviet Union, had scrubbed mention of the thesis from her resume, the Washington Free Beacon reported. She also praised the now-defunct socialist government for its lack of “gender pay gap” in 2019.

“What’s shocking to me is the notion that a person nominated for a very high position in our government shouldn’t be accountable for the things they have advocated for in writing themselves,” Toomey said during a committee hearing, adding that he had never “seen a more radical choice for any regulatory spot in our federal government.”

Omarova is a vocal critic of big banks and Wall Street orthodoxy, calling for a publicly-managed banking system overseen by the Federal Reserve and to end “banking as we know it.” She also opposes cryptocurrencies, calling instead for a central bank digital currency and praising China’s strict crypto regulatory regime.

Biden most likely didn't nominate her. He probably doesn't even know who she is.

If she refuses to fully disclose her credentials then that should disqualify her by default.

Should, but given the current political climate probably won't.

I'm just hoping that all of this crap will be in the minds of voters when they go to the polls for the midterms.

As some of you know, during the week, I'm "a minority" at work, both in melatonin and in politics. I'm hearing more and more of my liberal friends coming to the conclusion that America is headed 'fast and furious' down the wrong path.

I remember when the democrats were more "sneaky" with their plans, and took their time implementing them, a little here, a little there. But with this election, it was all speed ahead from the day Biden took office. First thing, he signed a stack of executive orders countermanding everything Trump accomplished, and it's been like that ever since. As if they know they only have a couple of years to destroy the country and want to shove through every single crazy liberal plan all at once. Green New Deal, Build Back Better, etc.

So much for turning up the heat a little at a time so the frog doesn't jump out.

(and, yes, I'm aware that's not a real life event)

                Good pick:

The Senate will no doubt look carefully at Omarova’s qualifications and record and her indications and commitments as to future intentions. But it should keep in mind, too, the record of those challenging her nomination.

Oliver Wendell Holmes famously observed that taxes are the price we pay for civilization. Bankers should insist on civil treatment from their regulators, but only after they have demonstrated a willingness to do their part toward collecting taxes.

Obama had a CIA director who was a member of the Communist Party so why should this be any surprise. From what I read of her she is an advocate of a "modernized" form of the old Soviet central planning school of thought.

One thing that the communists could never grasp. Centrally planning an economy is even more futile than herding cats while blindfolded. The only thing it accomplishes is stifling it.

I'm always still in trouble again

If the Republicans have even an ounce of savvy, they'll bring all this up in midterm election campaigns.... we are rushing headlong toward communism, and the Biden administration is greasing the skids. And I doubt Joe is even aware of what's happening.

It's pretty obvious that a thesis written by a student at Moscow State University is not going to be critical of Marxism. But just how important is an undergraduate thesis in determining the qualifications of someone with a PhD and a JD, anyway?

I would say it gives insight into their beliefs and standings. After all, would you want a FDA chief who's undergraduate thesis was on how the Nazi medical experiments were ethical and we should do more of the same now?

Or insight into what would be safe to say, or would yield the greatest approval, at that place and time.

Obviously not. The question, of course, is whether that is at all comparable. The hypothetical FDA chief nominee would not have been an undergraduate in Nazi Germany.

As we have seen when a Supreme Court nominee is being examined, or anybody else of consequence, something that was written or done long ago is CRUCIAL to the side opposing the nomination, and insignificant to the side supporting the nominee.
