  • Arden Admits Defeat

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern admitted her policies to fight COVID-19 have failed after more than 18 months of draconian lockdowns. On Monday, Ardern called for mass vaccinations and ongoing testing to reveal more cases of COVID-19.

Ardern went on to say, “in fact, for this outbreak, it’s clear that long periods of heavy restrictions has not got us to zero cases, but that is okay.”

OK for the businesses that suffered or shut down? All for naught?

New Zealand moved to ease its COVID-19 lockdown earlier on Monday to offset the downturn in economic activity. However, Ardern said retail stores and bars would remain closed for now.

“That’s why we need to continue to contain and control the virus as much as possible while we make our transition from a place where we only use heavy restrictions to a place where we use vaccines and everyday public health measures,” she expressed. “We need to keep using the tools we have. We need to vaccinate. We need to test. We need to find cases. ”

New Zealand’s exports of services have plunged 43 percent from December 2019 due to stringent lockdowns, which has been a severe blow to employment and economic growth.

Experiment in futility, with a whole lot of casualties.

The current seven day average of COVID deaths in the US is around 1600 deaths per day. New Zealand has had 2 COVID deaths in the past year, and only 27 deaths total since the pandemic started. I'd have to say that the evidence indicates that New Zealand has done a better job of controlling COVID than the United States has.

Wow, a tiny island has had better ability to control covid than a country many times its size with astronomically larger borders, as well as a president who is letting in immigrants without testing them?

                OP article has major falsehoods.

There have been very few lockdowns in the last 18 months and NZ was mostly able to operate with business as usual due to having no covid.

Unemployment has recently been hitting record lows.

During the few short lockdowns businesses have been heavily subsidized by government to make up for lost revenue.

Very recently a case made it across the border and the govt hasn't been able to stamp it out, so they now seem resigned to us having some covid cases and are just hoping vaccination rates get high enough fast enough to prevent mass spread and mass deaths.

But if you are foolish enough to believe what a news outlet as full of lies as the OP link tells you, I don't think you're interested in facts.

I've not heard one covid cult leftist in here address that issue.

Given the current rate of covid infection in Mexico seems to be almost 10x less per capita than in the US, I can see why they might choose not to bother as it would seem more sensible to spend the money to test people in the US population.

Not that it matters what the covid status is in the particular country of their origin (I assume you've heard of the concept of "superspreader" events), they're not just Mexican immigrants. Maybe you should brush-up on the subject. Try other sources than just TYT and Quora. And none of it logically gels with the relentless push to get every American vaccinated in order to "stop the spread."

Two "tiny" islands, North and South! As far as I am aware the USA's infection and death rate has been consistently high throughout this pandemic and Mr Biden did not become president until January of this year.

Isolated is probably the more accurate term, given that the islands are over 2k kilometers away from NZ, meaning that it's fairly easy for them to control the access points to the island and who comes in and leaves.

So an island country with a population that is just a fraction of that of our largest city that is effectively a thousand miles from everyone else and instituted tight border controls has fewer cases than a continent-spanning country where politicians stuck people who tested positive for Covid into nursing homes and allows tens of thousands of immigrants to swarm across its borders -- immigrants with high rates of infection -- but the left refuses to require either testing or a vaccine of to enter.
