Yes. Safety of Nuclear Power Reactors

And where do we store all that nuclear waste?
    NIMBY

We need to be using far less energy.
    You need to be realistic.

You should perhaps consider teaching your grand children to knap flint and make fire. They, or their grand children, may need such skills.

        I have.

Those things would need to be worked out. Probably much to complex for you to understand.

You should be forbidden to have grandchildren.

By the way, all of my grandchildren can make fire, shoot, fish, trap and live off the land.

If we put your grandchildren into the middle of the desert removed all their modern clothing and and gave each of them nothing but a blanket to cover themselves and a stick, could they do all the above?

I do not want any and none of my sons and their partners have any desire to produce any.

However, for your great great grandchildren the situation they may find themselves in may be less than rosy.

So, besides all of your other charming qualities, you're a doom-and-gloomer. Not surprised in the least.

I am postulating the sort of situation our ancient forebears encountered.

You have boasted of your grandchildren's survival skills. However, could they do all those things armed only with only a stick and a blanket?

It's one of the dumbest postulations I've seen, and amounts to stupid fear-mongering from a doom-and-gloomer.

Back on topic ---- Nuclear power is about as clean and green and safe as you can get.

                        Myths About Nuclear Energy

Truth: All of the used nuclear fuel generated in every nuclear plant in the past 50 years would fill a football field to a depth of less than 10 yards, and 96 % of this “waste” can be recycled [5]. Used fuel is currently being safely stored. The U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the equivalent scientific advisory panels in every major country support geological disposal of such wastes as the preferred safe method for their ultimate disposal[6].

Breeder reactors and nuclear reprocessing take care of the majority of the problem of disposal of nuclear waste. And accidents.... Nuclear is the safest energy source that exists.

First teach them how to drive a stick and change a dang tire. And maybe how to unclog a drain and sew on a button. Far too many don't know where to even start.

It is a potential scenario that you are reluctant to address. Could your grandchildren. regardless of their skills, survive with only a stick and a blanket? i suspect not.

Nuclear power is not actually the topic of this thread. However, and despite Lovelock's comments, I do not see nuclear power as we now have it providing any long term solutions.

We need to learn to not squander and waste energy, make adequate use of our resources, and control our population.
