Huawei hiring former Democratic super lobbyist Tony Podesta
The longtime K St. fixture is back in business after a Mueller-induced hiatus.

Huawei is hiring Democratic lobbyist Tony Podesta as a consultant, according to two people familiar with the matter. Podesta will aim to help the controversial Chinese telecom giant warm relations with the Biden administration.

Podesta will work to advance a variety of the company’s goals in Washington, according to one of the people. He declined to comment. A spokesperson for Huawei also declined to comment.

I guess Hunter was asking for too much money.

Reportedly, Huawei is also hiring various former congressmen, both Democrats and Republicans, as "consultants". I think anyone who takes a job with Huawei should lose their citizenship. They can move to China.

Well the US did unjustifiably arrest the CFO of Huawei for political reasons, so Huawei's only acting in its own obvious self-defense in trying to stick a finger into US politics to prevent a repeat.

Our resident expert on all things America thinks Canuckistan is part of the U.S.

Interestingly she had seven or eight passports including one reserved for government officials.

Huawei has been determined to have backdoor spy access for the Chinese government in their devices by the NSA. I don't think Biden can override the NSA without looking really bad.

Canadians arrested her. She's being held in Canada. And it was justified or Canada wouldn't have acted.

Perhaps he gets confused by the America / North America / South America / Central America thing?

Reminds me of a comic where Captain America gets a call from Brazil and then hastily changes his name to "Captain United States of America".

Yeah, it's sad --- in the good ol' days, when we were doing Mission Work in South America, and would say something about "Americans", they would get offended and say "WE are Americans, TOO!" Nowadays, they don't seem to want to boast about that.

But we were the only ones who cared enough about the name "America" to put it in our country's name!

One of my buddies, several churches ago, was a Navy Seal who did a training stint in South America against an American Opposition Force. As his team moved stealthily through the jungle, they came upon an old farmer in a clearing, and one of the Seal Team members asked him "do you know where the other Americans are?"

He pointed confidently to a hut about 1,000 yards across the clearing, so the Seal Team spread out to move back through the jungle to surround the "OpFor" and win the wargame.

To their chagrin, it was a bunch of SOUTH Americans in the hut smoking some local equivalent of marijuana.

While they were expressing their displeasure, they were surrounded by "OpFor" and "captured".

We were the first, but there was at least one other. Nearly all of Central America and a bit of Mexico were at one time a single country back during the first half of the 19th cent. It was called the Republic of Central America.

ETA: Correction. The Federal Republic of Central America.

Don't be a moron. She was arrested in Canada for extradition to the US because the US requested it due to violations of the US's sanctions on Iran.

The whole thing is about the US's sanctions on Iran. They're claiming she circumvented the US sanctions in order to trade with Iran.

Why the US should think that it's allowed to block people from other countries trading with Iran seems a legit question. Why the US should be able to itself break the agreement it made with Iran and yet have sanctions on Iran seems also a legit question, since the sanctions should be on the deal-breaker which is the US. If the US wants to portray itself as the most immoral actor in international politics they're going the right way about it.

Another possibility is that the Iran trading is just being used as an excuse to essentially hold her literally hostage while the ongoing US-China talks occur. That doesn't speak very well of America either.
