      There are plenty of anime and manga that address equality (eg Taishou Yakyuu Musume) and environmental issues. Activists won't like them though, because they DO address ISSUES without engaging in vilification and stereotyping.

        I don't doubt that. The kind of Twitter "activists" I mean are the kinds who mostly just complain about things and don't really want solutions. They are the kind who complain about sexism, but think the only way you can portray a "strong female character" is to make them look like a He-Man type character, and to portray stereotypically masculine traits. To me that just reinforces the idea that men are stronger than women, and the only way to be strong is to become a man.
