    Introducing Lovelace........

As a kid I knew gender curious children. I knew a girl who dressed in boys' clothes, played with boys' toys, rode a boys bike etc, and I knew a boy who liked girls' clothing, toys, games and parted his hair on the right side, a very daring thing to do 6o+ years ago. Years later I knew a young man who dressed in female clothing etc and who could ride a bike whilst wearing 4" heels..... amazing!

My parents and their entire generation were prejudiced against transgenders, as an infant I learned that such people are 'queer' but when comedians like Danny La Rue or 'Dame Edna' were on television my father enjoyed their acts greatly............ I never did understand that...!

And I've known gay animals and birds. This is all about Lovelace, and Molly, ...... and Pablo.
We keep ducks in our garden. A very long time ago I was a wildfowler, spent most of my teen years on salt marshes and creeks, and as so often happens to wildfowlers I became a watcher and conservationist in later years.

We have a transgender duck, a Carolina Drake which we called Lovelace. We arranged for him to have a Carolina duck, Molly, and although she would invite him to 'tread' her Lovelace never would. She would then make advances to Pablo, a Mandarin Drake and he would respond. Lovelace just doesn't care about that sort of thing. He lives with Molly, they sleep beside each other, but ..... no sex!

At first we decided that Lovelace is asexual.... but then Lovelace showed us that he is clearly not. Because golfers drive practice balls out to sea from the cliff tops here I often find these when I'm out on the foreshore, collecting oysters or raking for clams, so I bring them home and place them in the borders of our garden with round stones which I also bring home. In mid April Lovelace starts to collect and roll these golf balls in to a 'scrape' in a sheltered corner, and then he sits on them, turning them, tearing out his breast feathers to warm them, and is very aggressive to any ducks, mini-dachshunds or humans that come too close. Only Molly can sit nearby, but she's not allowed to actually sit on Lovelace's nest. Some time in Mid May he will lose interest and desert his golf balls.

What to do? Have I done a wicked thing by leaving golf balls lying around.... a clear temptation for Lovelace...?
Should we hang him high....... some humans actually believe that lgbt folks should be hanged.... true.
My wife works for a vet but there isn't a treatment for gay ducks.... humane termination?
The oven? But would eating a gay duck transfer such feelings, possibly?
Or could we simply enjoy this lovely creature, surprisingly tame when he hasn't got golf balls to protect!

Oh........ and why on earth do some folks object to LGBT people so much? Mental illness on their part, or pure bigotry? What causes that?

Perhaps you should briefly clarify how you define "homophobia," and what you mean by "object to LGBT people."

I only object when I am dragged into their world ("pay attention to ME") because I am not interested.

One of my oldest and best friends is homosexual. It was never an issue because he kept that part of his life to himself.

I find it curious when people appeal to the behavior of animals to justify perversity in human society, because there are a lot of things that animals do that we would regard as horrifying if practiced by humans.

My last dog ate his own poop and regularly licked his own privates.

It seems sad that someone you view as your best friend would have to keep an important part of their lives to themselves. It makes me wonder how good a friend you've really been to them that they feel they have to segment a part of their life off and keep it away from you.

You may wonder away, as it was his choice. I asked him why he never talked about it and he said he preferred to keep that private. I don't talk about my bedroom tendencies with my wife with him either.

I don't know what personal sexual details you like sharing with friends.

Reminds me of a similar story a couple of years ago in my own country. Thomas the goose had 18 years in a gay relationship in the wild with Henry the black swan, then helped raise 68 of Henry's children in a 3-way relationship over the following 6 year period when a female black swan turned up. Apparently goose-swan relationships occur with reasonable frequency and heterosexual matings of them can produce offspring called 'swoose'.

                _100037372_27459819_1542792615838539_4944494306981366624_n.jpg

Studies have found that gay swans are hugely common with up to a quarter of swan pairings being male-male, and that such pairings very commonly obtain eggs either by stealing from another nest or temporarily attracting a female and then driving her away, and that male-male pairings are massively more successful at raising the chicks than heterosexual pairings (80% chick survival vs 30% survival rate) due to the more powerful males being able to defend better nesting sites and share the workload more equally between them.

I was also intrigued to learn recently that in some bird species, such as Cassowaries, it is 100% the male who sits on the eggs and then raises the young, with no females present in the lives of the chicks. Another example of nature not conforming to our ideas of traditional gender roles. Of course, the most extreme example I'm aware of, is Clownfish who literally change sex throughout their lives (In Finding Nemo, when the mother clownfish died, the father clownfish should actually have changed sex in response... of course, can you imagine the tantrum conservatives would thrown if a popular kids movie had exposed kids to a basic fact about nature such as clownfish changing sex?).

You seem to be asserting both:
                  A) that he was unusually reticent on that part of his life, to the point where you think it worth commenting on to us in this thread, and to the point where you personally asked him why he never commented about it to you; and
                  B) that the amount he shared was a normal amount, equivalent to what you shared with him and what you'd expect anyone to share.

                  Get your story straight.

We had known each other for a couple of years and I noticed he never spoke about any romantic attachments; no girlfriends, etc. I was suspicious, and point-blank asked him if he was gay and he said - quote - "Yes, but I don't like to advertise it." Word for word. In the intervening 30 years he's barely made any reference to it, which is fine with me.

                        Is that enough for you?

People are on here comparing homosexuals with animals, and he gets offended by some mild comment I made. Very weird character.

OK...... a nutshell job..... Homophobia: An extreme or irrational fear or dislike of same-sex love or lovers.
.........and 'objecting to LGBT people' means exactly that....... can that expression be simplified?

                            So........ how was that?

                              Yep. Fair enough, I think.
That's not homophobia imo, it's some kind of 'phobia of attention demanders' which I have as well.

I had a close friend who was gay. He did want to tell me about all his meetings and loves, but I had hetero mates who did that as well. I used to listen.
I think I might have told friends all about my girlfriend before she became my wife. Yes.... I was bonkers over her, still am.
