Honestly, it get's hard to really tell these days. Once something gets politicized, then things get doubled-down on, and taken to more extreme parts, especially if you think doing so will "tweak" the other side.

So, for example, the standard method of calling the virus after it's actual or perceived origin was deemed racist by people who decide things are racist these days. This gets politicized. So now, one-side holds that even really looking at the origin is racist, while the other side doubles down on the origin, and even starts using generally racist language to things like "kung-flu." At that point though, is the language what it is because they actually feel like insulting the chinese, or because doing so "triggers" the left?

It's like the use of "Drumpf". Honestly, making fun of someone's last name is xenophobic. Dragging up an old ancestral family name in order to make fun of it is even worse. But, many liberals did that just because they thought it would tweak Trump or conservatives. (on the other forum, one guy even had a web-application that automatically changed Trump to Drumpf. Was he xenophobic? Probably not, but it had that same feeling as calling covid the kung-flu.

Except for the fact that it's cumbersome, I prefer "Wu-WHO Flu" because it alludes to two of the bad actors -- the Wuhan lab, and the Chicom butt-kissers at WHO.

It’s not hard to tell if someone is genuinely interested in finding the origins of the virus, or they just want to hate on the Chinese. You can usually tell by the character of the person making the claim.

If you are already convinced that someone is a racist, then any position taken by that person could be seen as confirmatory.

But if a suggestion can reasonably be made by someone who is not racist, then the suggestion itself can't really be considered racist.

Of course. But if they make racist comments about Chinese people, or use the term Kung Flu or China Virus, it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure out what they are up to.

The virus may have been a lab leak, but that doesn’t mean every racist stereotype against Asians is true.

I think this is an area where partisan ship made stuff worse.
Calling this the China virus or Wuhan virus was in keeping with the traditional naming viruses after thier place of (percieved) origin, such as Ebola.

Then someone suggested doing so could cause asians to be blamed, and then, the ever-sensitive declared that it was blatantly racist.

This ended up causing a pushback, where, in order to either trigger the sensitive,, orjust to refuse to obey them,, they doubled down. This wasn't necessarily for racism, but because someone tried to police their speech.

Its the same reason people mocked Trump for "little hands." In genein its a form of body shaming. But liberals weren't doing it because they thought little hands meant anything, but instead because Trump was sensitive about it.

Essentially, my point is we have a bunch of adults who act like little kids.

And that is the type of thinking that kept us from the truth for several months. More concerned with being thought of as racist than in the truth.

I'll bet you're one of those who thinks that they would make an excellent juror, not needing to bother with all that boring evidence and facts because you can just "tell" when someone is guilty.

And excuse me if I'm wrong but I suspect that the character traits that you use to determine if someone is racist start with whether they voted for Trump or Biden and goes downhill from there.

Is the Asian media which, according to a LexisNexis search, regularly referred to the Chicom coronavirus as the Wuhan or China coronavirus, racist against Asians?

Everybody and their brother were using those terms as can be seen in this video montage, right up until they got their orders from Beijing who told them to stop because it was racist.

And the reason that they used the terms was because we typically name a disease after where it was first reported to have broken out or something similar. For example, I put together a list last year of some of those I came across
                    • Aden Fever (a form of Dengue Fever named after the capital of Yemen)
                    • American trypanosomiasis (a.k.a. Chagas disease named after the American continents -- and Chagas was the name of a Brazilian doctor)
                    • Devonshire colic (named after the English county)
                    • Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever (named after the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of the Congo)
                    • German Measles (named after the German doctors who first described it)
                    • Guinea Worm (named after the Guinea coast of West Africa)
                    • Hantavirus (named after the Hantan river in South Korea)
                    • Hendra virus (named after a suburb of Brisbane, Australia)
                    • Japanese Encephalitis
                    • La Crosse Encephalitis (named after La Crosse, Wisconsin)
                    • Lassa Fever (named after Lassa, Nigeria)
                    • Legionnaires' Disease (named after the 1976 American Legion convention in Philadelphia -- even the name of the bacteria responsible reflects this)
                    • Lyme Disease (named after Lyme, Connecticut)
                    • Marburg Virus Disease (named after Marburg, Germany)
                    • MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome, which came from the Arabian Peninsula)
                    • Norovirus (named after the city of Norwalk, Ohio)
                    • Omsk Hemorrhagic Fever (named after Omsk Russia)
                    • Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (named after the Rocky Mountains in the western U.S.)
                    • Ross River Fever (named after the river in northern Queensland, Australia)
                    • Salonika or Salonica Fever (often called Trench Fever and named after Thessaloniki, Greece)
                    • St. Louis Encephalitis (named after St. Louis, Missouri)
                    • West Nile Virus (named after the West Nile district of Uganda)
                    • Valley Fever (named after San Joaquin Valley of California)
                    • Zika fever (named after the Ziika Forest of Uganda).

As an aside, what is ironic is that many of the same folks who kowtowed to the Chicoms over this are the very same folks who attack people for saying "sexual preference" rather than "sexual orientation."

Why is it ironic? Because according to my dictionary "orientation" comes directly from the word "orient" which is a term that many Asians actually consider derogatory and have for some time.
                    • NBC: Bill to Remove 'Oriental' from Federal Law Passes Senate, Heads to Obama ("On Monday, the Senate unanimously passed a bill that would remove the word from the last known laws in the United States Code where it applies to a person")
                    • NPR: 'Oriental': Rugs, Not People ("It's an adjective that used to describe rugs, not people. That's the message New York Gov. David Paterson turned into law this week when he signed a bill that bans state documents from using the term "oriental" when referring to people of Asian or Pacific heritage.")
                    • JSTOR (Science paper): Language matters: the vocabulary of racism in health care ("...the vocabulary of health care – both in its literature and the language of officialdom – has proved resistant to the use of this lexicon of acceptable terms, as exemplified by the portrayal of peoples as 'Oriental' and 'Negro'. What makes such language racist is the historical legacy it carries – that is, its symbolic importance.")
                    • About Japan: What's the Matter with Saying 'The Orient'?
                    • Los Angeles Times: The term ‘Oriental’ is outdated, but is it racist? ("It is now politically incorrect to use the word 'Oriental,' and the admonition has the force of law: President Obama recently signed a bill prohibiting use of the term in all federal documents. Rep. Grace Meng, the New York congresswoman who sponsored the legislation, exulted that 'at long last this insulting and outdated term will be gone for good'.") A somewhat opposing POV
