Judge halts Biden's race-based aid for farmers, says challenge is 'likely to succeed'

A Wisconsin federal judge ordered a temporary halt to a $4 billion race-based federal relief program for farmers on Thursday.

A group of White farmers had filed a lawsuit arguing the policy discriminates against them.

Milwaukee District Judge William Griesbach issued a temporary restraining order, noting the White farmers "are likely to succeed on the merits of their claim" that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) "use of race-based criteria in the administration of the program violates their right to equal protection under the law," according to
    NBC News.

"The obvious response to a government agency that claims it continues to discriminate against farmers because of their race or national origin is to direct it to stop: it is not to direct it to intentionally discriminate against others on the basis of their race and national origin," Griesbach continued.

Seeing this sort of thing popping up on both the local and federal level.

I wouldn't have a problem with the above as long as it remains private.

Sounds like Judge William Griesbach has actual common sense. Very rare nowadays.

As they say, common sense just isn't all that common

In this case, "common sense" can be seen as, "Let's lock in the effects of decades of discrimination by making sure nothing can be done to correct it."

As the judge said, the solution is to stop the discrimination, not reverse discriminate.

It's like the KKK decided that after years of hating and killing black people, they would "fix" it by hating and killing white people instead. The solution is to stop hating, period.

Ironic coming from someone who thinks using blatant racism is the key to showing that racism is evil and shouldn't be tolerated.

As I said, that locks in the results of the prior discrimination.

Forgiving debt that accumulated because of racist policies is not quite the same as hating and killing people.

The best solution here is for the federal government to get out of the tax-money, favortism, handout business entirely. But that will never happen.

So we fight racism with racism? And no, as long as everyone is equal under the law and there aren't any governmental impediments in the way that is the best we can do.

So as far as you are concerned, the evils of the past cannot be corrected. And the people who still suffer because of those evils should just learn to live with it.

As I have pointed out before, what has gone before has created an environment that will not 'self-correct' simply be removing discrimination. If an invader went into a border city, tore down every building, destroyed every street, bulldozed every house, and obliterated every utility and its infrastructure - the fact the invader leaves town is not all that is required for that city to be restored. The place must be ACTIVELY rebuilt. at great expense. If that city's country then requires that none of it's cities can receive any specialized or targeted funding that is not also given equally to any other, that city will likely never recover.

Simply removing discrimination will not solve the problem. There must be active efforts the remove the historically imposed consequences, to restore what has been lost. Resources must be used to target that specific problem. And doing that, targeting resources for the purpose of undoing the effect of hundreds of years of slavery followed by over a hundred years of discrimination and persecution will always be able to be called 'reverse discrimination' because to be effective those resources must in majority go to the black community. This sort of argument is just the latest hammer of oppression being used to prevent true equality between the races in the US.

The reality is, slavery stole the wealth, power, family and community infrastructure of the black slaves and gave it to the white populations in this country as wealth. Those in this country that are white have inherited that stolen wealth, and the black community has never been allowed to recover it, and in addition has been actively prevented from overcoming that deficit. And as long as our arguments and personal preferences ignore that and our moral obligation as a society to correct that injustice, we will never recover as a people from it's effect. What we saw this summer is that continuing legacy. And as long as arguments like this and those we saw this summer on this website continue to be popular with white conservatives, it will continue and likely get worse.

That has to be an active engagement by ALL of us to purposefully use our resources to make a difference, to change the status quo, to compensate for what has been lost. How to do that can be debated, but that it must be done, that is simply will not self-correct, must be faced and the implied responsibilities accepted - by all.

My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:1

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not  bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless James 1:26

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; James 1:19
