Regardless of which one of is right in this particular exchange, it appears to me that being on here is causing you anxiety. It really may be best to just not interact here. or at the very least take regular breaks.
You may be right on your last point. I keep thinking that is what is best, but I also keep coming back. I have taken several breaks from 3 days to a week at a time I believe since March.
My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:1

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not  bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless James 1:26

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; James 1:19

Breaks aren't as difficult, but straight up leaving a discussion forum can be a lot harder. I've stayed way longer than I should have in a couple of places. It's not easy, but I know I am better for not going to certain sites anymore.

youe mean when he got called out for denying BlueAnon and then got caught peddling a BlueAnon conspiracy theory in a (of his own making) thread where he was attacking people for holding conspiracy theories?

No, bud, he sort of brought that on himself. And you only are getting back what you give. Interesting, I got in some quite heated disagreements with several of the same people you are, over veganism not too long ago. Yet we eventually increased the tone of discourse and ended up with at least a little common ground and haven't held grudges. Maybe think about that and ponder that you may simply be getting back a reflection of your own grudges.....

There is also the fact that Starlight has a history not too unlike Hypatia. Starlight very much thinks he knows everything better than pretty much everyone here. This is in part due to watching "millions of hours of YouTube videos". There used to be a lot more people who were left leaning on certain issues that were highly regarded on this site despite most here being conservative. Some left when the site crashed years ago, and others just left over time.

EGGzackly --- and H_A didn't waste any time catching up. I was very civil to her at first, til it became apparent that all she was here to do was to be smug, to battle with Christians, and to derail every thread she's in --- even the ones she starts.

And, yes, Shuny brought it on himself by the extreme hypocrisy attacking "right wing conspiracy theories" while forcefully defending the "bludgeoned to death" lie.

Sylas was one. A liberal atheist who rarely wrote anything that I could disagree with.

What I found more disheartening was watching reasonable people turn into frothing-at-the-mouth, anger-filled, irrational ideologues/partisans during the last 4 years. At the other forum there were people who for years had been good posters, great people to discuss with. Then over the last 4 years, they deteriorated. Suddenly, any reason to be outraged was good enough to come in and talk about how absolutely horrible and amateurish trump was. The initial anchoring would stick even after facts refuting things came out. For example, Koi-gate. These people laughed at the big dope Trump pouring all of his fish food in. He was impatient, he didn't know what he was doing. Magical experts came out and told us how bad it was for the fish, how trump should have known this very obvious fact. He was an embarrassment to the country. After it came out that the video was edited and zoomed in on Trump, and the actual unedited video showed that Abe had dumped his food first, and Trump merely followed suit, those opinions remained. And these were people who had been rational debaters. It was sad.

I've noticed the same pattern with many people. It's like Trump being elected just snapped something in them.

And you are among several posters who don't like Trump but found yourself in the position of defending him because of all the over-the-top criticism and often outlandish bizarro allegations made against him

IIRC, it's CV that absolutely despises him and loathes being forced to defend him against some of the preposterous things that were said.

So I just need to decide if the opportunity to have meaningful discussions sometimes is worth the cost of being dragged through the mud most of the time.
Stop feeling so sorry for yourself. You've been called out on some of your behaviour that is wrong. Own that. Apologise for it, and try your best not to do it again. That would be 'iron sharpening iron', and a chance for you to get real character growth out of this (we all need it, I'm not just picking on you).

If there are posters who never have any positive interaction with you (I can think of some) then just avoid them - don't respond to them. There are plenty who I don't bother to engage with because they have shown to be incapable or unwilling to actually communicate both ways.

Lastly - you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Allow others the time and space to fully explore an issue to their satisfaction, so that they can come to a conclusion they are fully convinced of. As Cerebrum has pointed out, you have a bit of a habit of coming to a position on an issue and then ruling out any other conclusion as in some way morally wrong. People can be honest, sincere, and still not come to exactly the same conclusions we do about some things. You evidently grasp this well in the area of intra-Christian doctrinal issues. Apply that understanding a bit more widely.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth.

It was liberals seeing the mask come so fully off the US Republican base that was so enlightening.

Up until then, a lot of liberals had convinced themselves that all the US Republican voters were fundamentally good people, that they were fundamentally rational, reachable, and that if only liberals were sufficiently nice to them, made sufficient effort to understand them, and reached out to them in the right way, they could be convinced.

Article after after in liberal media told us we just needed to try harder to reach Republicans, be even nicer, that their apparent obstinacy was all our fault for not spending enough time and effort in understanding in seeing where they were coming from, and being empathetic to their views. The media were absolutely convinced that if only we'd reach across the aisle even more, that we'd be able to connect with Republicans. They seemed utterly convinced that if liberals reached out a hand of friendship to Republicans for the hundredth time time that they it might not be slapped away by Republicans like it was the previous 99 times.

But the Trump election and administration showed even the densest of liberals really really clearly, that Republicans would defend anything, excuse anything, and cackle that they were triggering the libs by embracing abhorrent behavior. No liberal could fail to see the Republican base's demonstration of their complete and utter lack of standards and morals.

But over and over and over again, throughout Trump's ~5000 scandals, his supporters not merely defended him every step of the way in every instance, but cheered him on, declaring him to be the best president ever. The worse the thing Trump did, and the more horrified the liberals were as a result, the more Trump's supporters seemed to love it. They reveled in the depravity.

Seeing people not merely having no standards, but actively glorying in evil, changes how you view them. You realize these are not people you can just convince by being extra extra nice to.
"I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump
"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism" - George Orwell
"[Capitalism] as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of evils. I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy" - Albert Einstein

A good deal of what you have said is true, but if both sides completely demonize and dehumanizing the other, hope is lost. It is critical that what is good not be corrupted by evil, no matter how tempting it is to cave to hatred.

Jesus, and as a consequence MLK and John Lewis, had a lot to say on that.
