  • Sanjay Gupta goes rogue

Cnn's little darling medical expert, Gupta, is now endorsing the possibility of the "leaked from Wuhan lab" story to explain the origin of covid that former CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield also endorsed...

“He’s an experienced virologist. He was also head of the CDC at the time this was happening, which means that in addition to everything that we know, he had access to raw data and raw intelligence that was coming out of China,” Gupta told me. “My point is that it’s a much more informed sort of thing for him to be saying than for anybody who may have expertise in virology, because he has a lot more knowledge and information that he has that maybe he can’t share, but is informing his opinion.”

Gupta said he offered Redfield opportunities to hedge his opinion, but that the former CDC director “really was quite adamant that this was the origin of the virus.”

“There’s reason to suspect that this is the origin of the virus,” Gupta said, pointing out the flaws in the predominant theory that it came from a wet market.

“It’s a big virology lab right in Wuhan that happened to be studying bat coronaviruses. Just from an Occam’s razor standpoint, finding the simplest explanation, it would make sense,” he said, adding, “We still don’t know for certain what the origin is.”
Wonder if this means Gupta will now get blackballed by his MSM "fact-checker" buddies and censored or kicked off social media for "medical misinformation."

I always get him mixed up with the Sanjay Gupta who taught my Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) class when I was HR Management. That name is probably like the American John Smith.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

Cow Poke when is the last time you've run across a John Smith?

I think Gupta is like most of us who follow the science. You go where the evidence takes you, even if that is not where you wanted to go.

In this case it sounds like Gupta is giving Redfield the benefit of the doubt, assuming he knows something the rest of us don't. However, that is not necessarily the case, and until the data is made public, it is not possible to draw a conclusion.

Do you think he'll get booted off CNN for falsely spreading an unproven medical conspiracy theory, or censored and/or removed from social media? I kind of doubt it.

Given Redfield's qualifications and his former insider position, I think it is hard to dismiss what he has to say right now, but he will have to provide supporting data soon.
I think Sanjay Gupta is being appropriately cautious in his reporting on this.

Actually Gupta wasn't just giving Redfield the benefit of the doubt. He also said "There’s reason to suspect that this is the origin of the virus," and then apparently pointed out flaws in the initial theory. That's what you call giving your own opinion. Try as you might to shill for him, Gupta is an accomplice in the promotion of this conspiracy theory.

Who knows? Remember how back in August 2016 CNN cancelled the physician and addiction specialist "Dr. Drew" Pinsky's show questioning the health and medical care of Hillary Clinton while she was running for president. This was back when the MSM was smearing anyone who asked questions as a conspiracy theorist nut-job, and those like "Dr. Drew" and a few others who broke ranks were summarily fired[1]. The effort was widespread with Google getting in on the act as well.

That was of course all before the 9/11 commencement ceremony where she started collapsing in front of dozens of cameras and had to be unceremoniously tossed in to a van like a sack of potatoes. Then it was impossible to pretend any longer.

                1. For one there was David Seaman, a then reliably liberal contributor to the Huffington Post and some other places. After he wrote about concerns over Hillary's health he was not only fired but all traces of any of his past contributions were completely expunged from their website and record. It was like a Soviet-style purge.

I am not shilling for him. I have not heard him speak about this, so I am being cautious in making any statements.

I work in a lab, with viruses, and find it hard to imagine a virus escaping. this would mean extreme carelessness.

I would certainly describe it as a conspiracy theory right now, but the person who needs to be pressed on this is Redfield, not Gupta, who is reporting what Redfield is saying.

People do have short term illnesses, which can be draining and is apparently what afflicted Hillary. Despite RW claims back then that she was on death's door, she is still very much alive and well, and appears to be quite healthy.

Seems that the RW is trying that same tactic on Biden. Not working.

                      Spin, spin, spin

The simple fact is that to nobody's surprise the MSM was working hand-in-glove with the Clinton campaign to suppress legitimate concerns about a presidential candidate's health to the point of firing anyone who broke ranks and acknowledged it.

So, should Gupta be booted off MSM networks and censored on social media for endorsing a conspiracy theory that the MSM "factcheckers" claim has been debunked like others have been who have proposed the same theory, or should we just accept that there is a double standard towards folks that disseminate unproven conspiracy theories?

There is a difference between an idea that has a basis in fact and an idea drawn from the dairy-air sourced in paranoia. Even when it's the exact same idea. A broken watch is right twice a day, but you need a working watch to know when.
My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:1

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not  bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless James 1:26

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; James 1:19

I watch CNN regularly and have yet to see Gupta say anything about this.

Yes it is widely considered that claims of viruses escaping from a lab in Wuhan are false, but if Redfield has actual data to the contrary, that would change the dynamic.
