Voting rights activist and former gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams reportedly tried to convince Major League Baseball (MLB) to keep its All-Star Game in Atlanta despite Georgia's new voting laws.
According to Atlanta Journal Constitution reporter Greg Bluestein, Abrams spoke to a senior adviser at MLB and "strongly" urged the league not to pull the event out of Atlanta.
While she didn't meet with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, who made the announcement the game would no longer be hosted in Georgia, she reportedly spoke with a senior official before the decision was made.
"She also argued against a boycott before MLB's move in a @USATODAY op-ed and @AJC interview last week," Bluestein tweeted.

That she started conducting damage control after MLB announced its decision (although here it says she claims it was before) is hardly a surprise. A significant portion of her potential constituency just took a body blow to their wallets.

You can't shift the goalposts and claim that because Abrams objects to these laws she is somehow responsible for the MLB decision.

How could anyone claim otherwise?
You really are super gullible --- do you not realize that politicians will often do things behind the scenes, then put out a public statement to cover their butt, or make them look good with their own constituency?
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

The unvarnished fact is that this law made it easier for everyone to vote in virtually every way. There is a reason that WaPo gave old Joe four Pinocchios (lowest score possible for honesty) when all he did was parrot the same talking points that folks like Stacey Abrams and Al Sharpton had been saying for weeks. She is the source of the whole "Jim Crow 2.0" crap that raised the biggest objections and protests.
Moreover, several sources inside baseball have reported that Abrams was right in the thick of things, agreeing with boycotting the game if it wasn't moved. Then after the baseball commissioner caves in she immediately starts issuing statements saying she opposed moving the game.
What a lying sack of excrement.

The announcement by the baseball commissioner, Rob Manfred, came after days of lobbying from civil rights groups and discussions with stakeholders like the Major League Baseball Players Association...
Before the announcement, baseball had faced the unsettling prospect of celebrating an All-Star week dedicated to the former Atlanta Braves great Hank Aaron, a Black pioneer of the game who broke Babe Ruth’s home run record, against the backdrop of a Georgia elections overhaul widely seen as targeting Black voters.
