Not sure where to post this but...

On Easter Sunday the newly-elected Senator from Georgia, Rev. Raphael Warnock, composed an Easter message that goes along ways in confirming suspicions that he is a CINO[1]

In it Warnock denigrates and disparages Christ's death and resurrection, essentially saying while that might be nice and all that, everyone, whether Christian or not can simply save themselves through being nice and helping others.

At least he had the sense to delete this blasphemous Easter message.

Wow. It's like he never heard the gospel. Did he get his "Reverendship" from mail order?

His statement would be more true if he had stated it for Christmas. Easter is still a holiday that is still heavily focused on it's religious origin.

There are definitely holidays where the primary meaning has been eclipsed by actions or more general themes. Christmas, while culturally Christmas, is much more of a "family holiday" now, and is often celebrated by non-Christians throughout the world. (Japan celebrates Christmas, even though Christianity isn't big over there)

An example in the us of a secular holiday that rarely represents it's primary reason is Labor Day.

No, from Union Theological Seminary where students are encouraged to confess their climate sins to plants. No, that isn't a joke.

            Uh, no.

His statement goes against everything in the gospel. The whole point of Jesus coming to us and dying is that we CAN'T save ourselves. HE is the only way. He died to pay for our sins, and by accepting him as our Lord and Savior, our sins are forgiven and paid for. We get eternal life by his sacrifice. All of our "good works" are like dirty rags compared to God's righteousness.

Kind of like how we celebrate Cinco de Mayo more than they do in Mexico and St. Patrick's Day more than Ireland does.

Easter bunny, baskets, egg hunts, chocolate - Easter is less explicitly commercial than Christmas, but it has its own secular mythology and custom, I don't see it as any more of a religious holiday. When organized religion inevitably dies out, it's sure to be one of the surviving remnants.

Well, since the Resurrection is the gatepost upon which the gate of Salvation swings, it will be the LAST thing that is abandoned - should that ever happen.

And presents. Not sure when that started, but for some years now, people give gifts, other than candy, on Resurrection Day.

The Fox and Friends hosts Sunday morning were wondering when that started. One of them quoted a kid as saying, "I like Easter. It's like Christmas and Halloween had a baby. You get candy *and* presents." It's cute until you think about it, then it's sad.

Paul has something to say about that seems rather definitive.

                        Scripture Verse: I Corinthians 15:12-17

Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.

                        Jesus explicitly tells us that

                        Scripture Verse: John 14:6

"I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

                        © Copyright Original Source

Notice that He did not say that "I am a way."

I'm not going to do all the name calling. But for a Christian there can be no other meaning or hope derived from Easter other than that Christ is risen. That is the Gospel. There is no other message that can be preached, and there is no other real hope for our world than what was done and finished on the Cross and revealed on that morning when the women found an empty tomb.

The 2000 year old message is the same in 2020 as it was that very first Sunday.

                          HE IS RISEN!
My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:1

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not  bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless James 1:26

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; James 1:19
