Here is liberalism/socialism in a nutshell:

Virginia moving to eliminate all accelerated math courses before 11th grade as part of equity-focused plan

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is moving to eliminate all accelerated math options prior to 11th grade, effectively keeping higher-achieving students from advancing as they usually would in the school system.

Loudoun County school board member Ian Serotkin posted about the change via Facebook on Tuesday. According to Serotkin, he learned of the change the night prior during a briefing from staff on the Virginia Mathematics Pathway Initiative (VMPI).

"[A]s currently planned, this initiative will eliminate ALL math acceleration prior to 11th grade," he said. "That is not an exaggeration, nor does there appear to be any discretion in how local districts implement this. All 6th graders will take Foundational Concepts 6. All 7th graders will take Foundational Concepts 7. All 10th graders will take Essential Concepts 10. Only in 11th and 12th grade is there any opportunity for choice in higher math courses."''''On VDOE's website, the state features an infographic that indicates VMPI would require "concepts" courses for each grade level. It states various goals like "[i]mprove equity in mathematics learning opportunities," "[e]mpower students to be active participants in a quantitative world," and "[i]dentify K-12 mathematics pathways that support future success."'

Socialism is about bringing everyone down to a common level to achieve "equality" rather than raising people up to a higher standard to achieve equality. Equally poor. Equally uneducated. Equally dependent on the State and Equally controllable.

Liberalism ALWAYS seems to try to drag everybody down to the lowest common denominator --- maybe because, then, they can feel superior?

It's easier to control ignorant, dependent people than intelligent, independent ones.

My sister-in-law is a 2nd grade teacher in a public school. A couple of years ago the school board "cleaned" out the school, firing everyone they could, transferring anyone they couldn't and putting in a new liberal principal. My SIL is retiring this year and is glad she doesn't have to put up with the liberal policies and politics any more. She was one of those teachers who wouldn't put up with the crap and spoke out. Since she had tenure, they couldn't fire her so they moved her to a different school the last year or so. The parents and kids loved her and were pretty upset with her being moved but nothing they could do about it.

                    As Churchill once remarked

The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries

Socialism is all about equality. But instead of wanting to lift folks up, they prefer to reduce everyone to poverty and misery -- everyone except themselves of course. For the leaders "trained in Marxism" its four mansions in gated communities.

I'm always still in trouble again

Fortunately, our school board purposely hires superintendents who are conservative, and value education rather than manipulation. Our previous superintendent was an African-American who has preached for me on several occasions, and he wasn't just saying "religious stuff" - he was preaching the Word.

I just met our newest superintendent at a lunch yesterday, and among the many things he reported was that one of the first things he did was to meet with the mission/vision team (volunteers) and study the mission and vision statements for the district.

He said, "we agreed to leave them alone, with the exception of REMOVING one word".

The mission statement currently reads, “In collaboration with our families and community, [local] Independent School District is committed to providing an exceptional education for all students.” Dr. [superintendent] recommended removing the word “providing,” saying that education is a moral objective and the purpose of everyone at [local] ISD.

He said at our lunch meeting "I don't think we need to 'provide' anything, but to inspire and encourage our students to excel". I like that!!!

And the vision statement --- "[local] Independent School District...A Proud Community Inspiring and Encouraging Excellence for ALL". The word "providing" was also removed from that statement.

The emphasis is - students need to be inspired and encouraged to work for their own success. I like this guy!

I don't think this is socialism. I seriously doubt most socialist or communist countries would be willing to dilute the capacity of their science and math based industries through such a ridiculous shot in their own foot.

That is not how it works in those countries. This is 'something else'. And not a particularly good 'something else'. I'd be curious to know the rationale in terms of mitigating the apparent consequence of holding gifted students back and reducing even further the number of US students qualified to be accepted into top tier science and math university programs. .

Socialism is not one thing, it has morphed over the years. The modern left has been squarely against meritocracy for a while - that is why in the 90s we started with participation trophies. You can't have winners and losers. This radical form of egalitarianism seeks equal outcomes rather than equal opportunity.
