  • New Arkansas anti-abortion bill

Here is the bill, which the Governor signed into law.

    https://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/Bills...blic%2FSB6.pdf

It goes into effect 90 days after the end of the legislative session.

All abortions are banned, except to save the life of the mother, to remove ectopic pregnancies and dead fetuses (which is not technically an abortion), and to save the live or preserve the health of the fetus. (although I don't see how that last one counts as an abortion either)

Abortion providers will be charged a max of $100K in fines and get up to 10 years in prison.
The woman will not be charged even though she seeks a provider. It is not clear what would happen if the woman buys abortion drugs on line and takes them without medical supervision. Or Plan B.

The lawmakers in Arkansas say this bill is designed to go to the Supreme Court in an effort to overturn RvW.

They don't say anything about fetuses with fatal genetic/developmental defects that cannot survive pregnancy, or women whose health is negatively impacted by pregnancy.

Women impregnated in Arkansas through rape or incest will not be allowed to abort.

There is no mention of enhanced social services to deal with the resulting increase in unwanted babies.

I don't know if the people of Arkansas had a chance to vote on this.

There will clearly be legal challenges to this, but sooner or later one of these cases will make it to SCOTUS.

It breaks my heart that a law that would make it illegal to kill an unborn child is considered controversial.

It is the same in Poland with the latest ruling handed down declaring that terminating pregnancies due to severe foetal abnormalities is unconstitutional. And Poland, like so many parts of the USA, is a deeply religious society with all the attendant issues that go with such attitudes.

What kind of mind decides that a young woman who has been incestuously raped by a close male relative cannot abort? Furthermore, does that measure apply to minors or just women over the legal age of consent?

You can only wonder at what those who support these measures actually think such legislation will do.

Do they imagine it will magically cause all abortions to cease?

Pro-baby killers always use this sort of argument, which begs the question: Are they under the impression that scenarios like this are the predominant reason women get abortions?

According to the OP that is in the legislation.

However, does that apply to minors incestuously raped by a male relative? Does a twelve or thirteen year old have to carry her pregnancy to term? After all this is Arkansas!

Okay, but I ask again, are those like you who support prenatal murder under the impression that pregnancies from incest and rape are the predominant reason women seek abortions?

I almost hit the roof --- I read this too quickly and assumed you were asserting that "incest and rape are the predominant reason women seek abortions".

I can now calm down and start breathing again.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

When someone starts resorting to rare and wild examples, they have already lost the debate.

What happens if a woman gets impregnated by aliens?
