Woke Excess Causes Minority Voters To Flee the Democratic Party

    Is anybody surprised by this?

While the Democratic Party pulled off a complete (albeit narrow) victory over Donald Trump and the Republican Party in 2020, they lost ground with nonwhite voters—despite significantly raising the salience of racial justice issues during the campaign.

According to progressive pollster David Shor, it's time to face the facts: The cultural views of very highly-educated, very left-leaning white people are toxic for many nonwhite voters who would otherwise support the Democratic Party.

"I don't think a lot of people expected Donald Trump's GOP to have a much more diverse support base than Mitt Romney's did in 2012," Shor told New York magazine in a recent interview. "But that's what happened."

Shor pointed to two specific associations—socialism and the "defund the police" movement—that appear to have tarnished the Democratic Party in the eyes of minority voters. The former is an unsurprising finding, and something I've written on previously: Socialism is generally not popular with Hispanic voters, who associate it with the kind of political oppression experienced by people in Venezuela and Cuba.

    ....

The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

What would be nice would be if the Libertarian Party got it's act together to capitalise on the rejection woke culture and the rejection of Trump. I know I had a better chance of winning the $1 billion dollar lottery, but I'd like to see a decent alternative to the DNC and the RNC.
    P1) If , then I win.

    P2)

    C) I win.

I think most blacks and minorities are more worried about ACTUAL racism, like being treated by white people as second class citizens, or being unfairly singled out for being black, or being beat up for being black, than being offended by a 60 year old children's book, or some other intellectual hypothesis like "white privilege"

I think the fact that the libertarian party is about personal freedom and responsibility to the point of eliminating government makes it kind of difficult for them to be a political party that can win government offices.

Heard a bunch of talk about this taking place last year. While Trump made definite gains (in spite of the MSM's 24/7 attempts to paint him as a racist), I don't see blacks or most Hispanics leaving the Democrats. Much more likely is that they vote less often.

I'm always still in trouble again

That would have pretty much the same effect.

Staying in party A but not being active is not really the same as going from party A to party B. While they both benefit party B the latter does so much more.

But it's all about "get out the vote" - if they stay in Party D but aren't excited about the way Party D operates, Party R may be the beneficiary.

I just said it better and used R and D instead of A and B.

Aside from immigration technicalities, Donald Trump was equally libertarian in policy (if not Libertarian) as Jo Jorgenson in the last election. In fact, Trump was less inclined to pay lip service to Leftist factions as was Jorgenson.

If the Republican Party continues down the same path in the 2020s, I will be voting for them and may even switch to that party. Right now, the Democratic Party is the enemy to all common sense and most middle-class America. So long as Republicans have a greater chance of defeating Democrats, then I will vote for them.

Yeah, I'll still stick with the Independent Party, cause I'm mad at the Republicans for being gutless so much of the time, but when it comes right down to it, on National elections, I'll most often go against whatever Democrat is running.

(I have voted locally for Democrats like County Commissioner or Judge or something where I knew their character --- in fact, one of the Democrat Judges I voted for subsequently switched parties and ran for reelection as a Republican - I voted for him again)

I registered Republican when I became eligible to vote in 1978, but switched to Libertarian a few years later. I too was disenchanted with them - mostly for their hypocrisy.

Same here. I have found some local Democrats to be superior to Republicans, but I've never voted for any on a national level.

                            Bigly, yes.

The Democrats I have voted for locally aren't into all the extreme leftist nonsense of the Democratic Party.
In fact, I suspect that it was easier to be on the ballot as the only Democrat rather than face a bunch of Republicans in a primary, then deal with the runoffs, etc.

We have one County Judge who is well liked, a very committed Christian, but for some reason he runs as a Democrat.

I don't want to derail this thread so I'll only offer this one anecdote ...

When I was a reporter in California, I had to interview two candidates for the state senate: Marianne Smith (D) and Sam Aanestad (R). Smith visited our city first, and she came to the newspaper with this infectious positive attitude, and with all sorts of ideas about invigorating our local economy (she had obviously studied our area and had some real answers). I thought "OK, she was pretty good." Then Aanestad showed up a week or two later with his goons; he actually had two bodyguards with him. His attitude was "how quickly can I get out of this backwater". He didn't know anything about our city and all he would talk about was keeping Democrats out of the state senate. At my recommendation (he said smugly), our newspaper endorsed Smith. She lost.
