I don't really think this thread is about me.

    It's really about Cow Poke.

It's called FREEDOM!!!! Imagine that --
nobody will be forced to go maskless in public!
And nobody will be forced to go into crowded businesses.
In fact, nobody will be forced to go out in public AT ALL!

And it's not liberals only - some of my conservative friends are very concerned about this.

The problem is that the people who are now empowered to go maskless and ignore social distancing guidelines and visit crowded places full of maskless people, put the rest of us at risk. But they don't care, because....Freedom!!!

This is not a matter of you do your thing and I do mine. We live in a communal society, and behavior that will spread a nasty infectious disease affects all of us, not just the ones who ignore the healthcare recommendations.

As I have stated numerous times, our faith-based help center operates a sub-hub for the State of Texas.
The very first day, we did 2,500 vaccinations in 3 (maybe 4) days.
        Now we're doing 3-4000 a day, approaching 5,000 a day.
People are coming from all over the state and beyond because it's such an efficient system.

To correct kccd's incorrect assumption that I'm thrilled about this - I do have concerns, and am anxious to see how this goes.
In the OP, I simply stated a fact.
Then observed that liberals would be wailing.
I was correct on both counts (albeit that the ending of the mask mandate doesn't end til a week from today.).

Actually, your not being "thrilled about this" is more of a wail than my criticism given I live 2000 miles away and will not be directly impacted by the stupidity of your state govt, while you will.

If you aren't maskless, you aren't in jeopardy, right?

Stupidity? How's the draconian mask mandates working in New York and Cali?

There are segments of the population in both states that refuse to wear masks or social distance.

Numerous polls suggest that COVID-19 is a profoundly partisan issue in the United States. Using the geotracking data of 15 million smartphones per day, we found that US counties that voted for Donald Trump (Republican) over Hillary Clinton (Democrat) in the 2016 presidential election exhibited 14% less physical distancing between March and May 2020. Partisanship was more strongly associated with physical distancing than numerous other factors, including counties’ COVID-19 cases, population density, median income, and racial and age demographics. Contrary to our predictions, the observed partisan gap strengthened over time and remained when stay-at-home orders were active. Additionally, county-level consumption of conservative media (Fox News) was related to reduced physical distancing. Finally, the observed partisan differences in distancing were associated with subsequently higher COVID-19 infection and fatality growth rates in pro-Trump counties. Taken together, these data suggest that US citizens’ responses to COVID-19 are subject to a deep—and consequential—partisan divide.

You're finally getting it. As opposed to the NannyState, yes, Freedom.

This is such a different message than the one being spread when AIDS was first an issue. At least my position is consistent.

Calm yourself, ma'am -- no wailing on my part. But look at you whining and complaining - as predicted.

You see, you liberals are about emotions and feelings and anger.... me, not so much.

So you don't think someone should have the freedom to do what they want with their body if it could harm another individual? Maybe you should rethink your stance on abortion. At least with masks you are free to avoid the person not wearing one.
