Do these same people refuse to use seat belts or bike helmets? Do they stop for red lights and look both ways before crossing the street?

Seems to me I recall the same "freedom" arguments when car seat belts were first introduced.

And who would consciously engage in behavior that would make them more prone to get a debilitating and potentially fatal disease in the name of "freedom", while also endangering their family and friends?

Aye, fight and you may die, run, and you'll live, at least a while, and dying in your beds, many years from now - would you be willing to trade all your days from this day to that for one chance - just ONE chance - to tell our enemy that they may take our lives, but they will NEVER take our FREEDOM!!!

I will be no more surprised about that than I am that covid continues to be a serious health problem in Democratic parts of the country. Because, of course, we know that the Dems have everything perfectly under control where they are in power.

Oh, wait.....California, New York, Michigan........oops. I guess I'm wrong about the Dems having it beat!

Unless the bikers called it off very few would have paid even the slightest attention to it. They're a pretty free spirited bunch not exactly know for being submissively docile. And most of those who I've known over the years aren't very political so their rebelliousness isn't really connected to political beliefs.

For all the praise and adulation that the left heaped on New York and the rancor and mockery toward Florida, by virtually every measure it's the latter that is coming out of this in better shape than the former, in spite of the larger population in general and higher percentage of elderly at risk people.

If only it had been a biker rally for racial justice, that would've protected it and no calling off would've been necessary.

If fact, calling it off probably would have had the reverse effect. More would have come out just in protest.

I have no idea. Why is it important?

Seems to me I recall the same "freedom" arguments when car seat belts were first introduced.
And they are still valid arguments. Nanny-staters have anxiety attacks if they aren't controlling people, and forcing people to wear seatbelts and helmets is part of the syndrome.

There are a number of sexually-transmitted diseases that fall under that description.

I have the freedom to do or not to do -- I mostly don't, but thought that might be fun in the pool. And I'm free from the fear of death.

And yes, people would still have shown up as many conservatives have actively refused even the most basic mitigation steps like masking and social distancing. Polling even shows that few Republicans plan to get the vaccine.

I've had Covid - a slight headache for about 4 or 5 hours, then absolutely ZERO symptoms, in spite of a positive test the next day.

Yeah, that's pretty ignorant to think that canceling the event would have been seen as anything other than throwing down the gauntlet.
