However, In that situation, the problem isn't the standard, it's the prep. You don't fix the problems by changing or removing the standard, you fix the problems by addressing why the opportunity wasn't really equal to begin with.
There's also only so much you can actually do. You can't address every extraneous issue that impacts prep that isn't under your control. For example, you can work to fix funding differences in the classroom, fix teacher quality and experience, etc. but you can't fix the home life of the students, even if it has a large impact on their prep.
