His philosophy in a nut shell....

"We love people. When we look out over the United States of America, when we are anywhere, when we see a group of people, such as this or anywhere, we see Americans. We see human beings. We don't see groups. We don't see victims. We don't see people we want to exploit. What we see -- what we see is potential. We do not look out across the country and see the average American, the person that makes this country work. We do not see that person with contempt. We don't think that person doesn't have what it takes. We believe that person can be the best he or she wants to be if certain things are just removed from their path like onerous taxes, regulations and too much government. We want every American to be the best he or she chooses to be. We recognize that we are all individuals. We love and revere our founding documents, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence," he continued. "We believe that the preamble to the Constitution contains an inarguable truth that we are all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life, liberty, Freedom and the pursuit of happiness."

Driving back from getting my taxes done yesterday I turned to the local AM station to get the weather report (it had started snowing) and he had a guest host on who said he'd be back soon so this was a bit of a surprise even though it certainly was not going to be much longer.

As I noted in the Memorial Garden, his are mighty big shoes to fill

Prepare for the vitriol and celebrations from those on the left. Those folks never had a shred of decency.

I'm always still in trouble again

        Don't get carried away:

On the dangers of secondhand smoking, and smoking in general: "That is a myth. That has been disproven at the World Health Organization and the report was suppressed. There is no fatality whatsoever. There's no even major sickness component associated with secondhand smoke. It may irritate you, and you may not like it, but it will not make you sick, and it will not kill you...Firsthand smoke takes 50 years to kill people, if it does. Not everybody that smokes gets cancer. Now, it's true that everybody who smokes dies, but so does everyone who eats carrots ... I would like a medal for smoking cigars, is what I'm saying."

            Of course, these people do:

Right-Wing Extremists Compare RBG to Hitler, Celebrate Death of 'Mass Murdering Hag'

And let's not forget he was merely an entertainment figure

Krystal Ball rips Limbaugh over false claim about nude photo: It's not your job to shame me or any other young woman

“Remember the name Krystal Ball with a K? Some thought she was attractive. She was running for Congress," the radio host said.

"She posed nude when she 14 or 15. She was outraged. 'How dare you!' I said, 'What do you expect to happen? You put a picture of yourself nude on Facebook or MySpace or, you know, My Butt, whatever it is. Somebody’s gonna find that stuff.'"

Limbaugh later issued a correction to the transcript that was posted online to his website, acknowledging that Ball had never posed nude.
Because he might be sued for libel.

I didn't celebrate his death, not did I ever pay homage to extreme leftists who've died. Seer was inviting retort, and both he and you know it.

It will be interesting to see what happens to his empire. He was unique.

I'm not particularly interested in sanctimonious demands of decency when he made his name by doing things like calling people "sluts".

Edit: A friend of mine says he remembers growing up, having his grandfather pick him up from school, and with Limbaugh having a segment where he would read off the names of people who died of AIDS and play bells and air horns. I can't verify if this memory is actually accurate but if so...

It should be lost on nobody that Limbaugh was an entertainer - not a journalist. He said things to get ratings.

Given this is posted in Civics not Memorial Garden I assume OP wants discussion, not encomiums.

So I will say that I regard Rush Limbaugh as having done the greatest amount of damage to America of any person in my lifetime. He deliberately lied to, and brainwashed, a generation of gullible people. Told them day after day that black was white, that up was down, knowingly and deliberately, and had them fall for it. In our lifetimes there have been no more destructive forces in the US and to the US than him. His near-monopoly on the airwaves took an entire generation and half the states into darkness, and the costs has been incalculable in terms of lives lost and lives damaged. If hell exists he'll be next to Satan and Hitler in it.
