A founder of the Latinos for Trump group on Thursday warned that without Donald Trump in the White House, there would be “taco trucks on every corner” in America.

“My culture is a very dominant culture,” the Mexican-born Marco Gutierrez said on MSNBC’s “All In With Chris Hayes.” “It is imposing and it’s causing problems. If you don’t do something about it, you’re going to have taco trucks on every corner.”

Maybe someone can explain to me why it would be a bad thing to have more small businesses. Or am I supposed to have a problem with tacos?

Well, Spart, obviously Mr. Gutierrez is attempting to protect the cultural diversity that has helped to make America so great. If there's a taco truck on every corner that'd only be if there were no papusa trucks, no haute lumpia fusion trucks, no capital waffle trucks, and no other trucks with names that could be made up as easily as they aren't. I stand with Mr. Gutierrez in his fight against Senor Gentrification and you should too!

He could be saying that Latinos currently in America (the majority of whom run taco trucks, didn't you know?) should be afraid of too much more Latino immigration because the immigrants will take their jobs / compete with them for existing market share (open too many taco trucks).

I think there is actually a slightly valid point hiding behind the taco-truck madness. Latino immigrants to the US have tended to disproportionately get certain kinds of jobs - tending to be low-wage, manual labor jobs that many white Americans would never have wanted to do and would view negatively. The "they're taking our jobs!" scare-tactic thus makes little sense when white Americans are told Latino immigrants are taking their jobs because the two groups are largely not competing for the same kinds of jobs (and obviously the number of available jobs increases with total number of people anyway which is why countries don't 'run out' of jobs when the population grows). But if the immigrants are competing for a specific set of jobs - i.e. new Latino immigrants will compete against the existing Latino immigrants for the kinds of jobs this people-group disproportionately favors - then actually, yes, the new immigrants may be literally "taking your jobs" and will be in very direct competition for the set of those type of jobs (of which, dare I say it, driving taco trucks might actually be one).
