  • What do democrats do if/when the second impeachment fails

Let's face it. The odds of the democrats successfully impeaching former president trump are slim to none. The odds of them getting 17 republicans to vote to convict won't happen.

    What's next?

The 14th amendment was floated before the impeachment, but do you think that a bill of attainder claiming Trump is guilty of insurrection and therefore barred from holding office will be justifiable when the senate just held a trial on the same issue and failed to convict?

The 25th amendment is completely out of the question now, as trump is out of office.

So, after the impeachment likely fails, what is the next step for getting Trump?

Probably some form of claim of conflict of interest, or benefitting from the office. Basically accuse Trump of doing what Democrat politicians do. That seems to be a fairly good predictor, based on past accusations - 'Our guys have done X, so Trump must have done X too' - kind of like how habitual liars think everyone else is a liar, gossips everyone else is a backstabbing gossip, and so on.

The Dems will scream that the Republicans are being bitterly partisan and need to be kicked out in the upcoming midterm.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

By that time they'll probably have the National Guard at voting places making sure there's nobody committing acts of terrorism by voting anything other than Democrat.

I agree with Cow Poke about Democratic screaming.

I think it's too much too hope that the Democrats will move on and start focusing on the business of governing the country. The best analogy I can come up with is this is like a bitter divorce and eventually the parties have to stop focusing on the other and focus on what they want to do with their lives.

I don't think there's much hope for getting Trump at the Federal level for causing an insurrection. We may just have to live with the way our legal and political system is set-up that this is how it comes out. "Getting" Trump may depend on the investigations by the NY AG for other matters.

The group I referenced in my (hidden) report is actually organizing to be active participants in poll watching across the country. They're doing their homework and getting things ready ahead of time to have a Republican at every polling station in the US, fully educated on election law and what they can and cannot legally do to guaranty accuracy in voting and counting.

Don't be surprised if by then such activity is illegal, termed harassment, intimidation and/or voter suppression through an E.O. signed by old Joe (if he's still around, and if not, by Harris).

The left is pulling out all the stops to make sure they remain in power for the foreseeable future, resorting to the tactics that are their trademark -- Show trials. Enemies lists, Reeducation...

Literally the first piece of legislation up before the House, H.R. 1 -- the so-called "For the People Act" -- is designed (in the name of fighting corruption of course ) to require states to allow just the sort of practices seen in the 2020 election that raised so many red flags. For instance from the text of the legislation

A state may not require an individual to provide any form of identification as a condition of obtaining an absentee ballot

So someone can request one under anyone's name and there is no way to prevent it. I could go to Texas and request an absentee ballot in your name and then vote. When you went to vote you wouldn't be allowed to because you had already voted.

              Further, again from H.R. 1

A state may not require notarization or witness signature or other formal authentication (other than voter attestation) as a condition of obtaining or casting an absentee ballot

Among other things this effectively legalizes ballot harvesting across the country. Someone can go and collect literally thousands of ballots in a community and dump them all at a ballot drop box and there will be no way to verify or validate them.

So if passed we can pretty much kiss free and fair elections in the future goodbye. It won't matter if there are poll watchers or not.

It's QUITE clear that the Democrats will do everything in their power to cement their "one party rule". Our county in Texas is very much Republican, and our director of elections is clearly an activist Republican. But she has made it a point to guaranty that the lady who heads up the Democratic Party in our county (such as it is) is always included in the election process, including interpretation of rules, vote counting, etc...

I'm just wondering how long that kind of relationship can continue -- these two women are friends, and have mutual respect, but it won't always be these two women.

It depends. GW was vilified to no end while in office (and rightly so, IMO) but as soon as he left he went into "low-profile" mode and was greatly ignored by the Left.

If Trump continues to make a big splash, which is his nature, the Left will continue to go after him. If he retires quietly, they will have to find another boogeyman to rally their troops.

I predict that, for the left, Trump will be the gift that keeps on giving.

I have a Republican friend who was inordinately pleased with the election results, because Republicans did so well down-ballot, and he was glad that the party would be rid of Trump.

I tried to explain to him that the Republicans are stuck with Trump, but he couldn't accept that.
