  • Bernie Sanders named Chair of the Senate Budget Committee

    https://www.politico.com/news/2021/0...t-plans-458461

The Senate Budget Committee's new chair is an unabashed progressive and self-described democratic socialist prepared to be as "aggressive" as he possibly can with budget tactics to help Democrats and President-elect Joe Biden enact their sweeping agenda.

Under a narrow Democratic majority in the Senate, Bernie Sanders will oversee budget and spending work, including the procedural power of budget reconciliation the majority can use to evade the filibuster and pass massive bills without a single Republican vote.

I believe this, alone, shows Biden is NOT in control. He is an empty suit - a marionette, even - being played by Pelosi and the other leftists.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

I think this means we're going to see lots of money for existing and new social programs and cuts to defense spending.

Unfortunately, our younger voters have been taught this is EXACTLY what we need, and will rally support. Those of us who know better are being outnumbered by the "gimme gimme" crowd.

To be fair, Biden isn't in charge of Senate committee appointments. That would be Chucky Schumer and his goon squad.

Sure, but any decent party leader would do that in concert or cooperation with POTUS --- maybe they didn't even ASK Biden. A POTUS often has "helpful suggestions" to reward his constituents.

Also money for infrastructure, strengthening of healthcare, and hopefully education especially given COVID. Also social programs but I don't think defense will get hit hard.

I work for the Defense Department. We have already been told to expect substantial budget cuts from our Agency Commander.

                    Thanks good information.

I was just reading that with 'trump's navy,' there were already changes afoot: cut legacy systems, Army end strength and troops stationed abroad to pay for a major increase in shipbuilding,

Yeah, the Navy's fleet is aging badly. It's costing more long term to have them repaired in dry dock than replacing them. Money has to come from somewhere...

Bernie comes from a generation that balanced the budget with defense cuts. They still think that even though its not really possible anymore:

Bernie, like even most Republican politicians today, has little to no concern about balancing the budget. They cut defense spending to pay for pet projects without having to raise taxes as much.
