Why do we need yearly increases in defense spending when we are not under any specific threat and our everlasting GOP wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are supposedly running down?
Why do we need to support 700+ military bases in other countries? And thousands of Generals with expensive entourages?

Why not spend the money at home for things people need, like healthcare access, repaired roads and bridges, affordable higher education, etc.

          In one word: China.

I will agree with you the wars in Iran and Afghanistan (yes begun by Republicans but continued under Democrat Obama) should be ended. I have no clear idea why we are still in Afghanistan.

The United States is currently under threat, but the enemy is domestic and not foreign. The number of National Guard troops currently deployed to defend DC is over 3 times the number of US troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria combined. Sadly, the troops are being deployed in DC to protect Americans from Americans.

Maybe there's light at the end of the tunnel for America after all.

However I don't hold much hope that Biden/Pelosi/Schumer will give him a free reign. I'm expecting the net effect of this to be about one good piece of financial support for the American people that they wouldn't otherwise have gotten. It probably won't have any larger effect than that unfortunately. The centrists are too entrenched for there to be any support for the kind of radical assistance for the American people and businesses that they need.

But in hindsight, the Dems got nothing for their efforts. It didn't win them votes, and Bush Jr simply blew their balanced budget out of the water and created huge deficits again. There's no real political incentive for the Democrats to try again to fix the Republican's budget deficits as they don't get rewarded for it.

                      What a good idea.

However, the military-industrial complex has a place at the heart of US government, a powerful lobby, and provides a great many jobs.

When Reagan was president the Democrats in control of Congress habitually spent $2 for every $1 that the government brought in as revenue and then blamed Reagan for the deficit.

Yes, the liberals are doing everything they can to grossly exaggerate the threat so they can clamp down like the power hungry control freaks they are.
