Yeah, you're right - but I'm trying to move away from Google, too. Getting rid of my @gmail.com addresses, and so forth. I'd like to be completely Google-independent.

Good move. I put a goofy photo of myself on my old gmail account, that I only used with family and one or two friends, and about a month later it showed up on a Google search of my name. My brother Googled my name and there was the photo. I was outraged. I killed the account after that.

It's scary. You mention something in a mail you send and you start getting adds for it everywhere. Thatr's why I'm getting off it. Bought a subscription to a secure mail service instead/

Just looked myself up. No pictures showing up.


Of course that might be for two good reasons for that.

1. While my name isn't a common one there happen to be a couple of fairly famous folks I share it with.

Gots to be careful of that. There are a few photos of 'me' that come up in a search...but they're all people who share my (not very common) name.

I still use Google a lot. Frankly, I'm more of a fan of convenience than of "security." I have Google Lite toolbar in my main browser. I get one-click access to Web search, Image search, Video search, Site search, and Dictionary search. Do any "safer" searchers give that kind of convenience?

DuckDuckGo does...Ihave mine set up like that.
