Glad to hear you're okay so far, good luck in the coming days.

I had it back in end of February before the first detected cases in my state were announced. Thought it was a particularly nasty flu (got most of the symptoms, other than the loss of taste/smell, and had a cough that lasted for a month) that took a good week to recover from and gave no thought of it until a couple months later when they started saying that it had been in the US (and in my state in particular - brought by skiers) since at least January, and I realized my symptoms matched.

Finally got tested by my doctor a couple months ago with two different tests from two different companies and sure enough, had antibodies that indicated I'd had it.

Oy! But great that there is support of the family still, and that is always a beautiful thing.

I don't want to derail Gond's thread, so I'll keep it brief.

Why did you go to the ER? I mean, what symptom(s) sent you there?
        Did you develop pneumonia?
I am particularly curious about the loss of taste/smell as I had that with a coughing flu last Spring. Did you have that?
Were there any covid defining symptoms that you never had before in your life? Something quite unique?

Wow. I had a bug in April that started and ended with a cough (the cough went straight through, for about two weeks). Never had that happen before.
I lost my sense of taste/smell, as well as my appetite. I have never lost taste/smell before. That lasted for about two days.
I had a low-grade fever for the first week, but only at night. My temp was fine in the mornings. Never had that happen before.

I don't know if I had it or not. It wasn't intense; I mean, I've had worse flus. I'll probably never know.

I was fighting it for about a week and a half after testing positive - but this past Saturday I could not even walk from room to room. There was a secondary lung infection, dehydration, low oxygen levels, kidneys failing, etc... There was a total loss of smell and taste. The afternoon when this really hit me two weeks ago I knew it was something different. But I am 67 and have emphysema, so that didn't help.

I've suffered from reactive lungs over the years. But a couple times this year (once near end of February and another maybe a month ago) I have had it where I could not catch a breath. I am trying to ween myself off some asthma medicines (but I have tried to be a minimalist on this anyhow over the years) and trying to use some more vitamins and supplements. But it also seems that quercetin made my cough pick up some.

Hope the best for your health and Thanksgiving.

Have you ever had a total loss of taste and smell before? My sense of smell is often altered when I get a cold or flu, but not completely absent. I couldn't even smell smoke, which makes me think I had it. But my doctor said "no", that the disease hadn't hit my region at that time.

My country doesn't do thanksgiving (and barely does Halloween), so I'll have to wait for Christmas for the food and family get together. Hopefully no cases of covid slip through the borders between now and then. Won't be fun if we have to wear masks over the summer.

I'll be meeting with a few family members, but truthfully, I dislike Thanksgiving. I dislike holidays in the first place because I've always associated them with loneliness and bouts of depression, and Thanksgiving has always been the worst.

Halloween was a bit of a damp squib here, but it appears our Government have decided to relax the rules over Christmas for 5 days and has allowed 3 household mixing. Reminds me of the other times they did something similar this year, only to have the predicable spike in cases shortly afterwards for no appreciable gain. Johnson has said 'OK plebs, have your Christmas - so long as you promise to be doubly miserable in January'.

In this context, there are three types of people: those who were not going to behave responsibly no matter what, people who were going to behave within the rules of what was allowed, and people who were going to behave even more responsibly than they had to. The relaxation of the rules won't impact on the first group as they weren't going to be responsible anyway (if anything they may act worse and have more people together), and it'll cause the middle group to interact with more people they were planning on too, as now they're 'allowed'. So it appears this plan of Johnson's will backfire as the rest of his bone-headed ideas have as people are not going to be less careful than they would have been if things had stayed the same.

To answer the OP (with regards to Christmas, rather than thanks giving): my partner and I will have my mother over as she lives alone and is in our bubble, but we'll do a larger family get together when we're able to next year- as a lot of our family live in the north of England where cases are much higher than they are around here. Getting people together, eating, swapping stories and presents is the thing, and it doesn't have to be on a specific date just because tradition dictates that it's the case.
