He will unite us when he figures out a way to make everyone surrender to his will.

But not only will conservatives not play ball with him, but progressives are going to get angry when they realize they've been played. Moderates have no interest to start socializing everything. "Sorry Bernie fans!"

Unfortunately, I do believe him, at least when it comes to his intent to implement his more damaging policies. As for his calls for unity, he says it because it works well in focus groups and not because he really believes it.

I'm not sure he would go left even if the Democrats had control of the Senate. (Though I don't consider any policy that has the support of a majority of the public to be "left".)

As it is, no legislation is going to get through unless it has bipartisan support.

President Trump has called for unity, but Democrats have fought him tooth and nail. They only care about unity when they're in control. And of course when they say "unity", they really mean "Shut up and do what we say."
