Don't know much about ZL, and don't care to know, but from what I understand, Australia is a dictatorial nightmare. I knew that a while back, but ever since the pandemic, they've gone full throttle. Australia, UK, and New York and are three places I'd avoid like the plague right now.

I think I know all I need to know about zea land.

The problem with visiting Australia is we do not have transporters yet, because I am not about to sit on a fart tube for a day to get there.

I can watch documentaries about it and be entirely satisfied.

So here are some excerpts from the article: (the bolding was in the article)

The new medical fascism rules will ensnare family members of people who test positive for COVID-19, even though nearly all the testing being conducted around the world is unreliable and routinely produces false positives. It’s now clear that the coronavirus pandemic is being weaponized by globalist-minded bureaucrats to enslave the masses in preparation for a global vaccine depopulation initiative.

As part of this genocide against humanity, various governments and universities are already turning people against each other by offering rewards for those who turn in “anti-maskers.” Soon, those programs will be enhanced to catch “anti-vaxxers,” who will of course be arrested, thrown in FEMA camps and systematically executed. All the executions will be counted as “COVID-19 deaths” in order to keep the scamdemic momentum going, pretending like all the dead bodies are people who died from the coronavirus. (When you see many of the bodies with their heads missing, you’ll know it isn’t covid.)

If humanity does not rise up soon, billions will be exterminated

It's rather hard for me to take its claims particularly seriously when its rhetoric is so extreme.

Yeah you probably shouldn't come to New Zealand or else they'll put you in a concentration camp and execute you.

          I've been executed twice already.

The Cato Institute ranks us the freest country in the world, but what would a libertarian think tank know about true freedom?

            Hello all,

I was here on Tweb 12 or 14 years ago and it was a place, at least in parts, for healthy, honest discussion between people of differing world views. Coming back today, I looked for the shortest new thread in Civics (remembering that it is always being better to get in early than trying to read 59 pages of previous discussion) and found this one.

My first question is: Does anybody take this news source, Natural News, seriously? I just read the first three paragraphs of this story and found it utterly unconvincing. It did get me to do a bit of googling as I was not familiar with the situation in NZ. Yes, there is room for debate if mandatory quarantine (for those who test positive and those returning from foreign 'hot spots') is a good idea, in line with the ideals of personal liberty. But again, does anybody in this discussion here trust 'Natural News' as a valid news source?

It's sometimes hard to tell how much of Marathana's trolling is serious.

I mostly assumed he posted this thread to troll me. But there is a possibility he really believes it. I also lean toward thinking Sean is being serious rather than trolling when he describes his view of Australia, the UK and NY as dictatorships. The line between trolling, serious, and mental illness is sometimes split thinly on this forum.

              It's certainly not that now.

I agree we technically could have a debate about it.

There's not really much debate about it in New Zealand, because everyone likes having a Covid-free country because it means people can live normal lives and work and play normally without having to worry about mask wearing of social distancing. Photos from a sports match here a couple of weeks ago were doing the rounds on the internet cos people were amazed we have crowds in attendance...

Polling found 92% approval among New Zealanders of the government's handling of Covid. It just makes sense to keep the border secure in order to keep it out of the country, so if people want to come into the country they need to go through quarantine (stay in a literal hotel for 2 weeks) and be tested to ensure they're not bringing it into the country.

My dentist last week had just come into the country through quarantine and her complaint was she didn't like the range of food the hotel provided, but she didn't want to spend extra cash to order meals from Uber Eats or order in food from a supermarket. So, as the OP article notes, that basically amounts to death camps, right? That article is hilarious. Interestingly it doesn't appear to be satire, it seems to be someone who genuinely believes all sorts of conspiracies. The mind boggles at the convoluted logic that's supposed to be behind it.

I get that a lot of Americans don't know much about New Zealand, so I'll just note that like the US, Canada, and Australia, it was originally largely a British colony, and in international rankings it's usually regarded as the freest and least corrupt country, and as one of the most democratic and happiest countries in the world. It leans libertarian and progressive and social-democrat. Perhaps the most appropriate US state to compare it to would be Vermont, though your mileage may vary.

Consider it a test. Do you fear Covid enough to lock up your neighbor?

On the one hand we have Sweden, on the other we have zland.

So far I see a billion different citizen experts telling me what to believe. Brave internet warriors schooling all the idiots. I don't see anyone trying to defend zlands latest move, just well poisoning and the usual grandstanding.

Maybe we should quarantine New York City, LA and Chicago.

If I were independently wealthy, perhaps I would want all of you quarantined. Would I be wrong?

We have crowds like that here in the US. They're called Trump rallies.

Just to be clear, by 'lock up' in the context of NZ quarantine, you're referring to a taxpayer-funded hotel stay (or taxpayer funded hospital stay if they're sick enough to need it) until they're better.

On the one hand we have Sweden, on the other we have zland.
It's New Zealand or NZ, not zland, just like it's the US or America not ustates or samerica.

Sweden and NZ are generally pretty similar countries in many respects. Both smallish liberal democracies that lean progressive and somewhat libertarian and a little bit socialistic. They've just taken somewhat different approaches to Covid - NZ opted to try and keep it out of the country completely via border closures and lockdowns if necessary. That's generally been very successful, and most people around the world seem to quite reasonably regard NZ as the world's Covid success-story. The all-cause mortality rate in NZ in 2020 has been way lower than usual years, because not only do we seem to have kept Covid out, we've also apparently kept out the flu too, which has resulted in many fewer-than-normal deaths. Sweden on the other hand, in spite of their attempts to have social distancing, hasn't done very well with respect to covid cases and deaths and their approach to Covid seems to be generally viewed as a policy failure.

I don't see anyone trying to defend zlands latest move
I wasn't quite sure what you meant here by New Zealand's latest move. But looking at the article (which is a month and a half old), I think you might be referring to the idea of moving a few people into the quarantine facilities who had been exposed to Covid infection that had slipped past the border security? Again, it's a fully-funded 1-3 week hotel stay for them until they test negative / recover. And the numbers we are talking about here are in terms of compulsory quarantining of exposed people in the community are like ~50 people total.

Whereas the number of people in the border hotel quarantine facilities at any given time - i.e. people who chose to enter the country knowing they would have to spend 2 weeks in a hotel - is ~5000 at any given time.

Maybe we should quarantine New York City, LA and Chicago.
Good luck finding enough hotel rooms for that many people and good luck paying for it. I imagine there's a lot of people on the streets of those cities who'd love to be shouted a luxury hotel stay with food included, so if you're feeling rich and charitable, I'm sure there's demand.
