  • BLM activist accused of punching organizer of SF free speech rally, I-Team confirms

    Just another White supremacist, right?
    Source: https://abc7news.com/7196991/

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The ABC7 I-Team has confirmed that a Black Lives Matter activist is being held in the attack on a Black conservative who planned a free speech rally in San Francisco Saturday.

Philip Anderson of Mesquite, Texas lost both front teeth in the attack; a GoFundMe account to fix his teeth is now past $32,000, and offers are coming in from dentists to fix his teeth for free. The 25-year-old Anderson has pledged to spend the extra money on planning more rallies.

    Then there was this:

    Source: https://www.npr.org/2020/09/27/917523942/woman-charged-with-attempted-murder-after-driving-into-pro-trump-protesters

A prolonged confrontation between Black Lives Matter and pro-Trump demonstrators outside Los Angeles turned violent Saturday, as someone drove a car through the pro-Trump group. The driver has been charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

One man suffered two broken legs, and a woman was moderately injured, Orange County Sheriff's officials said. It was the second time since Thursday that Southern California protesters have been injured by a vehicle and it's just the latest vehicle attack of dozens that have been reported since nationwide protests began in May.

But while experts see a rise in vehicle attacks coming from right-wing extremists, police say the driver in Saturday's incident was a member of the so-called "Caravan for Justice," which organized the Black Lives Matter protest.

Driving a vehicle into a group of Trump supporters is hardly anything new. I'm surprised that it got covered since the MSM typically looks the other way which of course allows folks to act like this was a first.

So people on the left doing once, what experts observe the right doing lots, causes equivalency in your mind? Or makes the left worse?

Please try some logical reasoning based on statistics and overall data, not based on anecdotes and things happening once. Anything will happen once if the sample size is big enough, but that doesn't make for a trend, it makes for an outlier.

          Once? Hardly.

Here are two more that I'm familiar with from just this year alone.

BLM Activist Who Drove Her Car Through Trump Supporters in Yorba Linda is Arrested and Charged with Attempted Murder

Suspect tells Jacksonville police that someone ‘had to take a stand’ after driving into GOP tent

I brought up the latter incident in another thread about the left's actual political violence

Heck, even when a man tried to mow down six Trump supporters with his van while they were inside a Republican Party voter registration tent in Jacksonville, Florida this past February, it was ignored by the big three network news shows.

The bottom right picture shows the perpetrator's
vehicle driving away from the scene of the crime

ETA: There was also the case of a registered Democrat, supporter of Bernie Sanders and abortion who posted anti-Trump screeds on her Facebook page, ramming a rented SUV through two security checkpoints at Mar-A-Lago back in February. The driver, Hannah Roemhild, was observed behaving erratically in front of an off duty Florida Highway Patrol officer at hotel prior to driving to Mar-A-Lago, was fired at by both Secret Service agents and Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies and was pursued by police vehicles to a motel in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she and her mother, who she picked up along the way during the chase, were arrested. Roemhild is facing aggravated assault on a law-enforcement officer charges.

That makes 4 incidents that I'm aware of in just this year alone. So when does it become a trend?

Numbers higher than a 3 year old count on his fingers would be a good start. Usually in science studies with n < 30 aren't interesting because the data doesn't have statistical significance.

Given we have large dataset over multiple decades with regard to terrorist acts, hate incidents, etc, in order to say something was a trend, I would have to see it constituting some significant proportion of the data across multiple years.

For example this graph from CSIS shows a trend of left-wing terrorism rising and dropping off again in the early 2000s, and of religious terrorism appearing and staying present after 9/11:

Though that is a little misleading in that the fatalities differ between groups because the sorts of terrorism they were doing was quite different. "Most of these left-wing attacks targeted property associated with animal research, farming, or construction and were claimed by the Animal Liberation Front or the Earth Liberation Front." and thus typically had no fatalities, as property damage against crops or to free animals is quite different to blowing up occupied buildings or gunning down people. Total deaths from left-wing terrorism were over 10x lower over the period than total deaths from right-wing terrorism. The outlier of 9/11 means religious terrorism over the period was ~10x higher in fatalities than right-wing terrorism.

So left-wing terrorism only comes to ~1% of all fatalities in the period, basically a negligible rounding error. This is why the reports on terrorism from the FBI and other government agencies barely, if ever, even bother to mention left-wing terrorism at all, as it causes such a miniscule fraction of fatalities in the US.

So according to star 4 incidents in this year alone (and it isn't over) of loony leftists using vehicles to run down groups of conservatives/Trump supporters isn't enough, you need at least 30 incidents. That would average an attack less than every two weeks.

I would be surprised if this idiocy came from anyone else but what would you expect from the guy who insists that the late communist dictator of the soviet Union, Joseph Stalin, is a right-winger.

FWIU, and I could be wrong, CSIS relies heavily on MSM reports of violence in compiling statistics, and since the MSM largely ignores leftist violence (all four of those vehicle attacks come from local news sources or a conservative news outlet) or falsely tries to pin the blame on conservatives (the El Paso mass shooting and 2017 Portland train murders) it must therefore mean that leftist violence almost never happens.

It's also important to recognize that CSIS excludes "riots", so much of the left-wing violence is ignored in that comparison

When I say scientific studies tend to need n > 30 for statistical significance, I mean you would want to have a dataset that includes at least 30 incidents total (not specifically of leftists) over whatever period was being studied, e.g. the graph I showed covered a 27 year period. That would work out at slightly more than 1 attack per year, and you claim there's been 4 already this year so it doesn't seem like an unreasonably high bar.

I would be surprised if this idiocy came from anyone else
Rogue you don't seem very smart or very well educated, and my impression of you isn't improved when you pretend I'm an idiot.

"Insists" isn't exactly the right word to refer to me noting that it depends how you define the terms. If you do want someone who's been quite insistent on Stalinism being correctly labelled right-wing, that would be Noam Chomsky. He's one of the most-highly cited academics alive.
