No one here has claimed Trump called the virus a hoax, so you're tilting at windmills.

        Idiot.

Which are we supposed to do, take the president literally or not?
        • If we're supposed to take him literally, then the president literally said the virus is a Democrat hoax - and thus you're wrong
        • If we're NOT supposed to take him literally, then you're not supposed to take what I said literally, either

        So which is it?

The POTUS called the democrat response to his actions for COVID the hoax, not the virus, moron. Take him literally. The Democrats and their trolling behavior are a hoax.

I didn't say he called the pandemic a hoax. I said — quite accurately reflecting his own ambiguity — that he called it a political hoax, a statement requiring a clarification which was in turn ambiguous enough to leave many of his supporters believing the virus was a hoax.

Your insistence that you don't care about that mistake is wrong.

Hundreds of thousands more excess deaths of Americans matter.

Prioritizing the reputation of a president who can't be trusted to leave a hurricane map unaltered over the lives of Americans dying by the hundreds of thousands is wrong.

Again, he did not call the pandemic a "political hoax". He called the Democrats attacking him for his response to the pandemic a hoax. The casualties of the pandemic have nothing to do with the blatant lie that he called the virus a hoax. He did not.

Your level of vehement insistence on this is bizarre given Trump's own words were pretty ambiguous. To the extent you're insisting that it was crystal clear that Trump was meaning what you're saying he was meaning, you're just factually wrong.

It's not unusual for Trump's sentences to be nonsensical. But insofar as what he was saying can be reasonably interpreted, saying he was calling the virus a hoax is a reasonable interpretation, as is saying he was calling the idea that the virus was a serious threat a democratic hoax. Your claim that it was really clear that he was saying Democratic critiques of him were a hoax, is not really a reasonable interpretation of Trump's words.

Some of those genes, according to this paper slated for publication in the preeminent journal, Nature, correlate with negative outcomes for Covid.

We carry genes that are billions of years old, from before the first one-celled organisms developed a nucleus. There's no reason to believe our species will eliminate Neandertal genes, ever.

First, it's not a blatant lie, or M wouldn't be insisting the pandemic is a hoax, now would he? And the need for a clarification issued the next day makes it even more apparent that you're spitting into the wind on this one. Maybe you're calling M an idiot. Well, the evidence seems to be on your side on that one, at least. That's yet another reason to contradict him, lest you lumped in with him in believing his conspiracy theories.

Second, oh hell yeah the casualties are directly linked to that interpretation. And not just that interpretation of that statement, but the president's insistence that the virus was being overplayed, that it would disappear like a miracle, that masks were for mocking, that the scientists saying otherwise should be silenced, that the president of the United States has no responsibility to encourage basic health guidelines, that governors should lead the federal response without federal resources, that reporters should be shoved together against the guidelines of the White House Correspondent's Association responsible for their seating, that the social distancing stickers be removed from the Tulsa rally venue which killed killed Herman Cain, and I could go on for quite a spell here.

The president's response to the pandemic has been a horror show.

                        And you're defending him.

                        That's not right, Bill.

Seems like a pretty scummy move for you to accuse someone else of lying then threaten moderation on them two posts later because they accused you of lying.

You're factually wrong here about Trump's words. And threatening moderation to stop others accusing you of lying when you are accusing them of lying is pretty pathetic.

The difference is that I never accused him of lying. I said the claim that Trump called the virus a hoax was a lie, and that lie pre-dated this discussion by several months. Accusing someone of lying isn't the same as correcting someone repeating a provable lie.

No I am not. Even Snopes agrees with me. He never said the virus was a hoax.

I am not accusing them of lying. I am saying the claim itself is a debunked lie, and being called out on repeating a known lie isn't against the forum rules. I wrote that rule, so I should know.

                                Yeah it did, clown.

                                What's True

During a Feb. 28, 2020, campaign rally in South Carolina, President Donald Trump likened the Democrats' criticism of his administration's response to the new coronavirus outbreak to their efforts to impeach him, saying "this is their new hoax." During the speech he also seemed to downplay the severity of the outbreak, comparing it to the common flu.

                                What's False

Despite creating some confusion with his remarks, Trump did not call the coronavirus itself a hoax.

So suck on those apples, jackass.
