Netflix indicted on child porn charges over 'Cuties'

By Victor Morton - The Washington Times
    Tuesday, October 6, 2020

A Texas grand jury has indicted streaming giant Netflix on child pornography charges.
The indictment accuses Netflix and its top executives of “promotion of lewd visual material depicting [a] child” with regard to the controversial French film “Cuties.”

State Rep. Matt Schaefer, Tyler Republican, posted a copy of the first page of the Tyler County grand jury’s finding on his Twitter page.

According to the indictment, which was handed down Sept. 23 but only revealed Tuesday, Netflix did “knowingly promote visual material which depicts the lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of a clothed or partially clothed child who was younger than 18 years of age at the time.”

The indictment goes on to note, relevant to the legal definitions of pornography, that the visual material in “Cuties” appeals to the prurient interest in sex, and has no serious, literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.”

I haven't seen it and have no intention to. I'm guessing that people at Netflix that approved of this either don't have children - or shouldn't have children.

Netflix's story is that the movie is showing that child pornography and sexualization is bad. But they are doing it by showing child pornography and sexualization.

The Bablyon Bee satirized that accurately with this:

New Netflix Movie Actually Murders Puppies To Teach That Murdering Puppies Is Bad

Going to track this closely. Netflix stock went up and down a few times but as a rule is holding steady. Netflix's strength is in all their offerings. Would be interesting to see the effect of legal troubles.

I've seen a few remarks about how it's just a few minutes. Come now....you don't have to live in Hollywood to know it's never just a few minutes of footage. There are definitely far more footage that were cut (not what director wanted, take went bad, whatever) so those girls were repeatedly sexualized far more than just a minute or two.

Also *hours* certainly went into finding, contracting, training, and rewarding those children for acts that the adults signed them up for.

Children can't sign contracts. That's why I oppose shows like Dance Moms by the way. Prosecute Cuties? You better prosecute those shows too. For the children's sake.

Maybe because the program was obscene and should have never been produced let alone broadcast? It was rated TV-MA, meaning that the rating board felt that the the content should not be viewed by anybody under the age of 18, so why on earthy did they have 11-year olds starring in it!

Haven't seen it, but I saw it cause up a twitter storm. I'll follow the court case with interest, but it's hard for me to judge something I haven't seen.

Yep just think of all the audition tapes that were made for the thousands of underage girls who auditioned. Probably hours upon hours upon hours of these perverts recording little girls thrusting their genitals at them.

glad to see this legal action, I hope more states do the same.

But even we accept the rationalization that was "just a minute or two", that's "just a minute or two" too much.

A pastor I once had preached a sermon one Sunday about the evils of pornography. He then instructed us that we should all go and buy a Penthouse magazine so we could see how awful pornography is.

He knew the moment he said it that it was a mistake. You could see it in his face.

We do not have to see something to know that it is bad, and there is SO much bad out of Hollywood that even small clips of the show would indicate that it is bad.

We cancelled Netflix just over a year ago, because the cost had gone up so much. I'm so thankful now that we did that.

The charges will go no where. They'll be dismissed on some grounds. My prediction: Texas doesn't have standing to bring the charges.

This is an AG trying to get publicity and nothing more.

Indeed, but I'm not sure that it meets the criteria for child pornography. I mean the way the law sounds any pictures of children wearing swimsuits in an advertisement could be skating on thin ice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that there has finally been some actual pushback against that crap, but I'm not sure this was the appropriate course.

I'm always still in trouble again

I have no plans to watch it mossrose, but I also know that twitter outrage campaigns can get out of hand. So I'll settle for following indirectly.

I understand that you have no plans to watch it, Leon. Just saying that sometimes we know something is wrong even if we don't see it.

Following indirectly is an option, and certainly a better one.
