Which is why they keep pushing for mail-in voting, in spite of it being unnecessary, with the narrative that Trump will refuse to leave (even though their side is saying the same thing about Biden), because they know there's going to be so much fraud and chaos, Trump will have no choice but to launch investigations and lawsuits. I mean it couldn't be anymore clearer what they're trying to do.

"Authoritarian" doesn't seem at all the correct term for what the Dems are wanting to do with regard to SCOTUS. They are not trying to put any restrictions on the freedom of the populace, which is what authoritarianism is about.

Instead they are trying to prevent change. The Republicans have been involved in a multi-decade project trying to put a sufficient number of 'originalists' into SCOTUS, such that the originalist majority can then change a whole bunch of things away from the status quo with creative rulings that would overthrow decades or centuries of law. The Dems are trying to block that from happening.

i.e. this is a case of Dems being conservative in the literal sense of conserving the status quo.

"Orginalists" = Constitionalists. That's a bad thing for leftist Marxists. So, of course, the left would be deeply troubled by that, so troubled in fact they're willing to play dirty in order to get their partisan hacks into the courts.

IMO, "originalists" = "write their own very original and creative interpretations"

The opposite are the judges who pay attention to what previous court rulings have been and are careful to follow tradition and not up-end the apple cart.

What an absurd statement. Marxism has nothing to do with it.

It's not absurd in the least. The left has become a cult of authoritarian marxism and intersectionalism. At first, when it was just spreading throughout liberal universities, their tactic was to forcefully silence their opposition by getting them expelled, fired, doxxed, canceled, smeared... now they're expressing their views rather violently and physically in the streets. Naturally, the very word "constitutionalist' is an extremely ugly word to them, which is why they get offended by it. In fact, I would imagine I could find articles where they actually call that word racist.

No, my statement was the idea of adding some seats to the court "does not remotely qualify as 'court packing', with all the implications of that practice." Try again.

THat is precisely what Trump has been doing for months. How can you turn around and try to pin exactly what Trump has been doing on Democrats?

This is just so much nonsense it's laughable. Trump has for months been doing everything he could to throw doubt on the election result before it's even voted on. It's Trump who's been claiming (without the slightest support) that it will be a disaster, Trump who has been setting up to dispute the result, Trump who has refused to say he'll honor the result. And you Trump sycophants try to somehow blame Democrats. If it wasn't so pathetic I'd laugh.

Except, of course, that they have no rationale for adding SCOTUS judges, except that they are afraid that the current set won't rule in their favor.

Adding justices doesn't inherently qualify as court packing; it had been increased several times in the past, though initially the size was increased to keep parity with the number of circuit courts, but if you're adding justices to try to get justices more aligned with your ideology, as the Democrats would be? Yes, that's court packing. Absolutely. To try to say that them adding in justices to try to do this is anything but court packing is just downright silly.

If increasing the size of the Supreme Court in order to put in liberal-minded justices isn't court packing, exactly what do you define court packing as?
