    Somebody help me with this....

Explosive Helium? I thought it was one of the "noble gases".
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

    You're correct.

OK, I noticed lower in the article something about Helium-3, and thought I must have missed that one.

IIRC the fact it's helium 3 won't make a difference unless they're somehow producing a fusion reaction.

It's a misprint. Helium can not burn.

The abstract is available here: Mantle helium along the Newport-Inglewood fault zone, Los Angeles basin, California—A leaking paleo-subduction zone

A press release from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), where the lead author geologist Jim R. Boles is a professor emeritus, can be read here: A Deep, Dark Mystery

I wonder if some of the confusion regarding helium-3 (3He) being explosive comes from its use in nuclear weapons research.

I'm always still in trouble again

The headline seems to be corrected now. "Could LA's Big One be even bigger than we thought? Helium leaking from massive earthquake fault under Los Angeles reveals giant rift"

Interesting. Some school kid must have told his dad he goofed.

I thought that the only thing he put on your doorstep were burning paper sacks full of fresh poop.

Then again, maybe that's what I do.

Just imagine the impromptu press conference taking place near the epicenter of the disaster as the Mayor, Police Commissioner, Disaster Coordinators and other public officials try to comment on the crisis in Donald Duck voices, while the media works hard to contain their laughter in light of the devastation.

                            That would not be good.

                              Californians already do that.

But, California could float away into space!
