Natural Science 301 Guidelines

This is an open forum area for all members for discussions on all issues of science and origins. This area will and does get volatile at times, but we ask that it be kept to a dull roar, and moderators will intervene to keep the peace if necessary. This means obvious trolling and flaming that becomes a problem will be dealt with, and you might find yourself in the doghouse.

As usual, Tweb rules apply. If you haven't read them now would be a good time.

  • "Watching" massive star formation

It looks as if, over the last couple of decades, a system has gone from being less ordered to more ordered as a massive star slowly forms.

    Laypseron’s writeup:-

Star formation caught in the act

    Abstract to paper:-

Observing the onset of outflow collimation in a massive protostar

    Like it!
Glendower: I can call spirits from the vasty deep.
    Hotspur: Why, so can I, or so can any man;
But will they come when you do call for them? Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part 1, Act III:

go with the flow the river knows . . .

I think it's safe to say, however, that changes in its surroundings have done most of that shaping. Disorder doesn't just go away. I wish I could read the article, though. I need someone with excess cash to buy me an ApJ subscription (I'm more interested in astrophysics than science in general).

        Yes.

Overall, entropy increases because as that thing goes from disorder to less disorder or from less complex to more complex even, work is done, and energy gets dissipated, and the universe winds down just that little bit more.

        Yeah.

I do have access to a good university library which helps. I used to go there and flick though that journal quite a bit.

Then they drastically reorganised, and put a lot of stuff onto electronic systems, and I never really bothered to find out how to use the new system. (Getting to be an old fogie you see.)

Mind you, I think that article may have been in Science.

Yeah, it was. I used to read that in high school, but alas, I don't have access to that any more.

It's always a bugga when those things happen. But I don't think I'm allowed to use that word. So, it's always a real annoyance when those kind of things happen.

Lots of journals are beginning to try open access with some articles. I don't know if this will be of use:-

            http://www.aanda.org/component/services/?label=laf

Sometimes too, even if an article is not nominated as open access, one can find a pdf of it, somewhere on the web. It's often worth poking around.

I've found quite a number of interesting articles from academia.edu.
