This is an open forum area for all members for discussions on all issues of science and origins. This area will and does get volatile at times, but we ask that it be kept to a dull roar, and moderators will intervene to keep the peace if necessary. This means obvious trolling and flaming that becomes a problem will be dealt with, and you might find yourself in the doghouse.

As usual, Tweb rules apply. If you haven't read them now would be a good time.

The grammatically correct designation for us inhabitants of Pluto is "Plutonian", thank you very much.
"When the Western world accepted Christianity, Caesar conquered; and the received text of Western theology was edited by his lawyers…. The brief Galilean vision of humility flickered throughout the ages, uncertainly…. But the deeper idolatry, of the fashioning of God in the image of the Egyptian, Persian, and Roman imperial rulers, was retained. The Church gave unto God the attributes which belonged exclusively to Caesar."

Pluto, please come back as a planet.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ― C.S. Lewis, God in the Dock: Essays on Theology (Making of Modern Theology)

I thought we were Pluterians? It was changed from Plutanian because no one could spell it. Plutonian sounds like we're trying to say 'photonian' with a head cold. Besides, the Plutarchs get all bent out of shape...

I thought "Plutonian" was an underwater rock or something. :(

              Wasn't it an element?

There is plutonium - a radioactive chemical element. And there are plutonic rocks.

So we both got one correct, although I was wrong about the rocks forming under water.

Easy to do. Plutonic rocks (then naming of them) was part of the controversy in early geology between Hutton (one of the first, if not the first, to strongly advocate for an Earth MUCH older than 10,000 years coupled with a theory of continued erosion and reformation) and Werner who theorized all rocks where originally formed under water as a by-product of trying to conform geological theories with a traditional reading of the Genesis text.

I was hoping, way back, that Pluto would get visited while its atmosphere was still hanging about. Better late than never, I suppose.

Is there any chance that Pluto will eventually clear its orbit of other objects and so reclaim its title as full planet?
