This is an open forum area for all members for discussions on all issues of science and origins. This area will and does get volatile at times, but we ask that it be kept to a dull roar, and moderators will intervene to keep the peace if necessary. This means obvious trolling and flaming that becomes a problem will be dealt with, and you might find yourself in the doghouse.

As usual, Tweb rules apply. If you haven't read them now would be a good time.

  • Black bear attack

It is common wisdom that black bears are not usually involved in attacks on humans. There are exceptions such as this one.

Bear cubs are cute. As long as you do not have mama around.

I love bears. I still have the stuffed teddy bear my mom made me when I was a baby and I still have a few collectibles (Boyds, Steiff).

Obviously I'll enjoy the real ones at a far distance (or behind a fence).

Mama would probably reject a cub with the stench of humans on it. If that cub wasn't an orphan before it is now.

And they smell bad! I used to help in tagging black bears.

We had one stuck in our dumpster last year. The mama was quite upset. One of our brave guys ran out and threw a wooden pallet in the dumpster -it made a kind of latter. The cub got out and ran off with mom...

When I was a kid, a local park had a black bear in a cage in a "natural setting" in the side of a rock hill. I always felt sorry for that bear - it was a fairly small cage, and the bear was really stinky and just paced back and forth all day - back and forth - every time I saw it, it was just pacing back and forth.

                    That just seemed so cruel.

I agree, I hate most zoos and and circuses. If you want to see wildlife go where they live or watch TV.

Unfortunately most of them can't afford cable.

And they hate it when you watch over their shoulders.
