Natural Science 301 Guidelines

This is an open forum area for all members for discussions on all issues of science and origins. This area will and does get volatile at times, but we ask that it be kept to a dull roar, and moderators will intervene to keep the peace if necessary. This means obvious trolling and flaming that becomes a problem will be dealt with, and you might find yourself in the doghouse.

As usual, Tweb rules apply. If you haven't read them now would be a good time.

The clamor by feminists has caused the scientist to apologise weepingly, reminiscent of a Maoist show trial.

Or reminiscent of someone who's screwed up and knows it.

A trivial screwup at most but the hysterical reaction to it in some quarters is utterly ridiculous.

I'm always still in trouble again

Right? Just look at these hysterical reactions:

@roseveleth LOL so wearing a shirt with good looking women = women abuse? You're an absolute MORON.
        Jump off a cliff. Please.

That's what you'd think, but look at the counter-reaction ... every misognynist on the planet with access to a keyboard seems determined to prove the "hysterical reaction" valid. If the counter-reaction had been a collective rolling of the eyes, I'd feel differently. It wasn't.

          Point proven.

It's only a trivial screwup if you think the pervasive sexism in science and engineering is unimportant. Otherwise it's a particularly obvious example of a widespread attitude.

Also, what I saw of the original reaction was hardly hysterical. No one was calling for the guy's head, or his job. When he apologized, the universal reaction seems to have been, "Great, now let's talk about the science."

The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

So public shaming is all right as long as he's not fired?

                        What's wrong with public shaming?

If you're gonna be interviewed on-camera, you should probably make the effort to look professional.
                        Don't call it a comeback. It's a riposte.

That's the type of question I'd expect someone with no sense of shame to ask.

Of course. The goal is to make it socially unacceptable to be seen as a sexist Edited by a Moderator. That means you have to make people feel shame when they act in public like sexist Edited by a Moderator.
