Natural Science 301 Guidelines

This is an open forum area for all members for discussions on all issues of science and origins. This area will and does get volatile at times, but we ask that it be kept to a dull roar, and moderators will intervene to keep the peace if necessary. This means obvious trolling and flaming that becomes a problem will be dealt with, and you might find yourself in the doghouse.

As usual, Tweb rules apply. If you haven't read them now would be a good time.

Of course, just as I was joking.

On the serious side, it is outright scary that the vast majority (99.999%) of people actually eat up this "travel to other stars / extra-solar planets" nonsense. Long ago I realized that it's all summarized with this: The crooks perpetrating these crimes use the naivete, gullibility, too-much-Star-Trek, wishful non-thinking and overall ignorance of the general public to promote their myths and accomplish their goals. Sadly, they have succeeded!

The part you have absolutely right is what I've highlighted.

By the way, PRECISELY the same tactic (no coincidence there!) is used for the pushing & promoting of Evolution; i.e. lots and lots of "sciency" images and "technical" goobledegook -- including funky-looking creatures straight out of someone's imagination -- and grant money flows like water over the Niagara Falls.

So are you going to return and offer an actual critique of my "denovo" genes OP Jorge, as opposed to simply ranting then running off?

In those posts I go to great lengths to explain what is going on. Given your mastery of science, it should therefore be easy for you.

(As for technical gobbledegook - you've never read a physics paper I gather?)

Actually, when measuring two quantities that are conjugates of each other (momentum and location, for one thing [or two things?]), the uncertainty in the measurement of one conjugate multiplied by that of the other conjugate should be equal to or greater than Planck's constant. That is very small. And, no, you can't measure the momentum exactly, no, no, no

What memory alpha says it is is something about regulating the plasma flow. What it is used for, in the series, is a plot device or technobabble to make they stuff they describe sound like it might actually work (sort of like how they made up a heisenberg compensator to explain away the uncertainty principle that would make transporters impossible).

In the past I've had a thread where my thesis was, in a nutshell: travel to other stars and extra-solar planets will not ever happen unless something straight out of (today's) science fiction enters the picture. I qualify with "today's" because what would have been regarded as science fiction 100 years ago is commonplace today (e.g., a Cray supercomputer). But the qualification is important because today it is science fiction, not demonstrable science.

The crooks perpetrating these crimes use the naivete, gullibility, too-much-Star-Trek, wishful non-thinking and overall ignorance of the general public to promote their myths and accomplish their goals. I mean, who wouldn't want to be on a starship to a distant star and have a nice chat over tea with a Vulcan, right?

Why does Jorge remind me of the guy who said flight was impossible right before the Wright flyer took off and flew? Also, is anybody else surprised that Jorge somehow turned this into yet another rant about how anybody who even thinks this might be possible is somehow a secret materialist, that is plotting the downfall of Christianity?

The impulse drive is ran by a fusion reactor, in the series TS.

that works out perfectly for me then!!
