  • Banana --> Intelligent Design?

The YEC/IDer Ray Comfort presented the banana as evidence for Intelligent Design since it has great nutritional value, has a easy-opening peel, and fits "comfortably" in the human hand.

The argument is of course ridiculous since the banana is the product of millennia of artificial selection and bears little resemblance to its "seedy" ancestor.

To bw fair, this argument has been debunked sufficiently for many creationists.

    1) I was wondering if there are any other ID howlers out there?

    2) And specifically I wonder what the more scientifically literate ID community and non-evolutionist Christians in particular react to such outlandish claims?

Here's Christian website that presents Comfort's video and does some debunking.

I thought the banana argument was just a joke!
If it weren't for the Resurrection of Jesus, we'd all be in DEEP TROUBLE!

There ye go. Intelligent design at its finest.

          ???

Debunked by anybody with access to WikiPedia.

It's my understanding that Ray Comfort was serious about this. But I'm more than willing to stand corrected.

I suppose it's "intelligent design" in the sense that humans used artificial selection to design from a less well-designed prototype (less designed from an anthropomorphic sense).

Actually the arguments I've seen for ID are mostly anthropomorphic.

I still prefer bananas over billiards.

This is what a natural banana looks like

                As for other howlers...

Bananas are definitely easier to peel

                    Bananas disprove evolution.

                    Peanut butter disproves evolution.

Yet peanut butter and bananas together make a yummy sandwich!

                    Go figure.

It wasn't clear to me if you meant creationists debunked the idea, or if the idea was debunked enough FOR creationists.

I guess the dude from "OnKneesForJesus" had never heard of Louis Pasteur.

                            Could this be a Poe?

"Billions of experiments every year"... I guess anytime anyone opens a jar of Mayonnaise the Theory of Evolution is disproved.

Of course the ding-dong conflates the Theory of Evolution with abiogenesis. But that's a much higher level of complexity. Peanut Butter is easier to understand.

Reminds of the Cosmonaut in orbit who said "I can't see God out here."
