  • Presenting the bionic kangaroo!

New robotic technology advances by a series of small leaps. Literally.

Cool! Now if they could cover it in plush fabric and decrease the price to ten bucks...
If it weren't for the Resurrection of Jesus, we'd all be in DEEP TROUBLE!

Yes; same one, or at least parts thereof! Thanks muchly. Several folks seems to be putting up videos on this.

The original is probably the one here: BionicKangaroo at festo.com; it is a little bit longer; and seems to be hosted at the page of the company that built it.

I wish I had titled this thread: "Robotic technology advances by leaps and bounds"!

Now if they could come up with a humanoid robot that could balance itself and walk/run realistically, that would be something. I saw some video of such research, but it was basically supported by a framework of cables and wires, not stand alone.

They should use that as the basis for the next lunar rover!

I thought it was supposed to be bionic, not a robot.

Expect humanoid style walking soon, I think. I've seen (on video) some impressive bipedal walkers doing their thing with a safety cables, not actual support; but the one I am thinking of wasn't humanoid; it was more like a bird walking. I've seen a humanoid walking robotic legs, but not freestanding.

And from the same people that gave us the bionic kangaroo (festo)... dig this bionic dragonfly! (I was concerned about the date, but the second clip prove it wan't an April fool's prank)

And before that, a bionic bird

This company is doing some amazing things with robots.

They make amazing robots like this and they're not even Japanese? I don't believe it.

When they make a robotic drop bear then I'll be impressed.

I do not want to see that.

Still nothing that is "bionic". Just robots.

I think it's great. I know sylas isn't a theist, but I think wanting to create is built into our nature by OUR creator. That is why we keep trying to create life ourselves. And as they say "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" - so we are amazed by things like robots that we create imitating natural creatures.
