In 2017, Maussan made similar claims in Peru, and a report by the country’s prosecutor’s office found that the bodies were actually “recently manufactured dolls, which have been covered with a mixture of paper and synthetic glue to simulate the presence of skin.”

The report added that the figures were almost certainly human-made and that “they are not the remains of ancestral aliens that they have tried to present”. The bodies were not publicly unveiled at the time, so it is unclear if they are the same as those presented to Mexico’s congress.

On Wednesday, Julieta Fierro, researcher at the Institute of Astronomy at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, was among those to express skepticism, saying that many details about the figures “made no sense.”

Fierro added that the researchers’ claims that her university endorsed their supposed discovery were false, and noted that scientists would need more advanced technology than the X-rays they claimed to use to determine if the allegedly calcified bodies were “non-human”.

“Maussan has done many things. He says he has talked to the Virgin of Guadalupe,” she said. “He told me extraterrestrials do not talk to me like they talk to him because I don’t believe in them.”

The scientist added that it seemed strange that they extracted what would surely be a “treasure of the nation” from Peru without inviting the Peruvian ambassador.

So, the obvious fake was a fake? No room for organs! And why would an alien look like that? Too humanoid.
If it weren't for the Resurrection of Jesus, we'd all be in DEEP TROUBLE!

Peru appears to be taking this seriously
An investigator who presented 'non-human' bodies to Mexico's congress has insisted he did 'absolutely nothing illegal' as Peru has launched a criminal probe into how the alleged 'aliens' left the country.

Journalist and UFO enthusiast Jaime Maussan unveiled two corpses alongside forensic scientists last week in what he described as a 'watershed' moment.

He has suggested the mummified bodies - which he claims to be 1,000 years old - are one of the most important discoveries in human history.

But most in the scientific community aren't so sure - suggesting that they are part of an already-debunked, perhaps criminal stunt.

Maussan, 70, claims they were found around 2017 in Peru, near the pre-Columbian Nazca Lines - a mysterious set of ancient geoglyphs.

But now Peruvian officials have furiously questioned how the specimens, which they insist are earthly objects, left the country and came into Maussan's possession.

Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga said they are looking into how the bodies, which she described as pre-Hispanic objects, left Peru and says a criminal complaint has been filed.

Maussan has said in response: 'I'm not worried. I have done absolutely nothing illegal,' but said he could not answer how the bodies arrived in Mexico.

When asked how the pair - whom he calls Clara and Mauricio - came to be in his possession, he replied only that he would reveal all 'at the appropriate time.'

Maussan testified under oath before Mexican lawmakers on Tuesday that 'we are not alone' in the universe as he displayed the alleged remains of non-human beings.

The pair of corpses, displayed in glass boxes, have elongated heads with three fingers on each hand - but otherwise somewhat humanoid in shape, including two arms and two legs.

Their retractable neck and long skull show characteristics more 'typical of birds', El País reported.

They were also found to have strong, light bones and no teeth, the presenters said.

Experts in congress showed apparent X-rays of the specimens and said that one of the beings carried 'eggs' with embryos inside them.

They said they had implants of cadmium and osmium metals, with osmium one of the most scarce elements in the Earth's crust and considered the rarest precious metal.

Experts have since rebuked his claims, with Navy Lt Ryan Graves, who has participated in US Congressional hearings about Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), criticising it as a 'huge step backwards' and 'unsubstantiated stunt'.

Elsa Tomasto-Cagigao, a respected Peruvian bio-anthropologist, has also revealed her frustration at the claims, citing similar alleged finds that were found to be frauds.

'What we said before still stands, they are presenting the same rehash as always and if there are people that keep believing that, what can we do?,' she said.

'It is so crass and so simple that there is nothing more to add.'

Forensic scientist Dr Jose Zalce Benitez, who presented the findings alongside Maussan, challenged scientists to take samples of the alleged alien bodies and conduct their own studies before labelling it a hoax.

'Based on the DNA tests, which were compared with more than one million species... they are not related to what is known or described up to this moment by science or by human knowledge,' he told journalists.

Julieta Fierro, a scientist at Mexico's National Autonomous University's (UNAM) Institute of Astronomy, reviewed his results said samples were related to brain and skin tissues from mummies who died at different times.

The results 'do not show anything mysterious that could indicate life compounds that do not exist on Earth,' Fierro said.

At last week's conference, Maussan cited carbon dating by UNAM as showing that the bodies were more than 1,000 years old.

UNAM on Thursday republished a statement first issued in 2017, saying the work by its National Laboratory of Mass Spectrometry with Accelerators (LEMA) was only intended to determine the age of the samples.

'In no case do we make conclusions about the origin of said samples,' it said.

Unlike their namesakes, Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum doesn't deal in clumsy fakes.

I lived near there when I was working on soil and geologic surveys and visited, and yes Ripley's Museum contains questionable and contrived stuff
