That was the purpose of chickenpox parties.

I had chicken pox. The shingles virus is the same virus, it just causes shingles if you have already had chicken pox.

I had chicken pox, mumps and measles, one right after the other in a very short space of time. About a year later I got rubella. Unlike the other three, it was a mild case.

Did they use your blood for the MMR vaccine ?

Yeah I think us kids who grew up in the 50s-80s had all those childhood diseases. And we had to walk to school through 10 feet of snow, 50mph blizzard winds, uphill both ways, barefoot, while carrying 100lb backpacks filled with actual books!

Uphill -- both ways and 100 degree heat while in a blizzard. And depending on where you lived you might have had to fight injuns too.

I was the only one who got rubella. Neither of my parents or brother ever got it.

I don't remember much of when I got the three right after the other (my brother got a mild case of each first and I got a severe case of each from him). The one real good memory I have is getting an itchy red spot on a place where no male should ever get an itchy red spot.

I had mumps when my daughter was 6 months old. I did have chicken pox as a child, but I don't know if I had rubella.

                Ronson how are you doing?

Slowly feeling better with meds. Fatigued and sleeping more, though.

                  Thanks for asking

You missed scarlet fever? We had that, as well.

                        I probably had them.

Because you weren't in the area when they struck?

I was miserable with chicken pox. Had 'em in my scalp, in my throat, all over.

But mumps was fun. Several days off school with barely noticeable discomfort.
