What makes this so cool is generally all that would be left is a pile of rusty dust mixed in with dirt, but occasionally the conditions are right to preserve such things. It's like when they discover ancient Byzantine ships sunk in the Black Sea with the rigging still intact. Normally riggings disintegrate in seawater after a couple centuries but in this case the water was anoxic (very little oxygen) which prevents decay so the riggings are still there.
