Study Room Guidelines

Ok it isn't so quiet in here but our resident librarian will ensure that there is good discussion on literature, prose, poetry, etc. You may also post sermons, notes, and the like as long as it is not copyrighted material and within reason of the post length regulation.

We encourage you to take a lose look at the threads and offer honest and useful input. This forum is a place where we discuss literature of any media, as well as personal creations by some of our own wordsmiths. Debate is encouraged, but we often find ourselves relaxing here.

  • Any Church Librarians Here?

I'm organizing our church library. I plan to use Dewey since some books are already labeled. Any advice or tips for categorizing books? Is there a resource for this? What about indices?

Are you looking for a Library Management System?

Possibly. I need to know how to classify the books we have.

I organized a pastor's library about 25 years ago. Had no idea what I was doing, but learned that the books have info on the copyright page inside about how they should be catalogued.

At least they used to. And that was way before computers.

jpholding who runs Tektonics was a librarian for a prison. You might try asking him.

He's always been kind, courteous, and quick to respond when I've asked him things. I think it's been a long time since then, but it can't hurt to ask. I'm pretty sure that if he can't help you directly, he can point you to someone who can.

A lot of these don't have ICBN's or category info, hence the trouble.

Great idea, Cere. I just need help getting started. It seems like there should be resources but I don't know where to look.

            Thanks, everyone.

Take a look on Worldcat, this is a very good resource for librarians. Enter the ISBN in the box and press enter, you will get a record that looks something like this (it will vary, of course, from book to book.)
