It's a historical novel, depicting the Templars as some sort of secret, Mason-esque society, who are hiding the fact that Jesus was really, get this, a Jewish rebel. It's typical fundy atheist nonsense. The Catholic Bishops are depicted as cartoonishly evil, mustache twirling, villains, and the Jews are depicted as spotless angels, for whatever reason.
