This author is clueless from every direction. Here's something I wrote to my kids today.
Dear students,
This message is going out to all of my sections.
Please note that our section will remain Remote for the entire semester. None of my students will be required to return to campus for my classes. Almost all of you have other classes, however, so I’ve been reaching out for clarification on your options, as I promised to do in our meetings this week. I received informal clarification this morning.
I am distressed to learn that no options have currently been implemented to excuse students from in-person attendance. There is currently no opt-out plan for students. I recognize and appreciate that some of you are eager to return to the classroom. If it weren’t for my health issues, and those of my “family,” the marine and his wife and son, I’d prefer to do the same.
But there’s no denying that a substantial proportion of my students, your peers, have told me that they are also living with at-risk family members. Note that because of the need to rotate student attendance to maintain social distancing, most of the time you’ll be watching lectures, even in classes that return to campus.
I cannot speak for your other professors, but I firmly believe if you communicate your needs to remain remote with your other professors, they will find an informal accommodation for you. Please note that these arrangements must remain informal, and granted on a case by case basis.
Please note over 10,000 of your <edited> peers have signed a Change.org petition you may wish to join.

Yes, we're working harder than we ever have before. After six months of this now, I've damn near forgotten what a weekend is. I traveled to Georgia last weekend to close on some land, and every spare minute that wasn't spent reworking my presentations for remote was spent tutoring kids 1-1 on Blackboard Collaborate.
I'm racking up six and seven hours a day, every day, above and beyond regular lecture and office hours and prep. And there's nothing at all unique about my experience, either.
And this author thinks we do this for the pay.
