I've been to the doctor, I've been given some stronger anti-inflammatory tablets to take for the next two weeks. and I'm back to doing physio (ultrasound on the wrist yesterday helped a fair bit). If no improvement after two weeks, then I am back to see the specialist.

While this may not be something that you are looking forward to, getting it taken care of now, BEFORE it fails catastrophically, is probably the best option.

Hopefully it's something they can fix more easily than surgery #1(as in much more easily), but Outis is probably right on this one.

TFCC tear
I have an old injury. A tfcc (Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex) injury on my right arm. Basically the underside of the cartilage that sits between the ulna and the the TFCC has a tear in it, caused by slipping on steps, misdiagnosed as a sprain then re-injured a few years later chopping firewood.
In March last year I had surgery for it. There were two options, one operating on the actual cartilage (6+ month recovery) and the other cutting the ulna in half and shortening it by 2mm and then screwing everything back together (3+ month recovery). On the doctors advice I went for the second option in March last year.
Surgeon's report:
Now I had been recovering fine, but post the surgery recovery I still obviously have a torn TFCC that I need to strengthen up.
I will admit I haven't been too good about doing my exercises, but apart from some pain when lifting something heavy or certain hand positions, it's been progressing. I did find that a 14km bike ride was enough to leave it hurting, and I can't really throw my girls up in the air without it hurting, and after a long day at work my right hand would be a little more tired that my left. (I have to use one of those split "comfort" keyboards now and a specially shaped mouse)
However in these last December holidays I hurt it again. I was pushing Mine Beloved's MTB which had our youngest in the baby carrier on the back with my right hand while holding the second youngest's had to cross a street (mine beloved was getting the oldest two across the road). The bike hit a bump and fell over, I naturally held onto it to keep our youngest safe, and that has left me hurting. I go half a day at work (I'm a software developer) and my hand starts aching.
I've not been to see the doctor yet, because I'm nervous that I may end up having the first surgery......Tags: None
