Health Science 101 Guidelines

Greetings! Welcome to Health Science.

Here's where we talk about the latest fad diets, the advantages of vegetarianism, the joy of exercise and good health. Like everywhere else at Tweb our decorum rules apply.

This is a place to exchange ideas and network with other health conscience folks, this isn't a forum for heated debate.

Look at how conflicted Biden is in calling for our schools to reopen when the science backs that - but the teachers unions say not so fast.
    Ah...... the schools.
I don't think that we here (UK) are quite so strangled with political struggle (over Covid) as the US. Our Shadow Government is supporting Boris, with just the odd 'We could do this better but...' phrase here and there.

Those schools. Juggling the dreadful financial crashes with Hospital stresses, Brexit plus our children's educations on top of that, PM Johnson has done EXACTLY the same thing by pushing for schools to re-open when he needed to keep them closed. On a Friday evening a few weeks ago he told England that schools would stay open, and on Saturday morning he told England that schools must stay closed. (Wales, Scotland and NI Ireland have their own leadership over Covid).

It's just showing how horrid the whole juggling mess is at present.
The last time that the UK left politics aside to support our leaders like this was when Churchill picked up the baton in WWII. We moan about Boris but the majority will support him.

Feel free to let me know what part of this you don't understand: "Being vaccinated makes you unlikely to be symptomatic. And being asymptomatic makes you unlikely to spread the disease."

The protection of the experimental covid shots only are said to protect from the worst symptoms of the virus, if Pifzer has even achieved that level of evidence. So you seem to be assuming much beyond what Pfizer claims.
I'm going by more recent information.

Worse yet. No one under 60 is typically liable to severe sickness or death from the virus.
You are a veritable fount of misinformation. People with certain disabilities (such as Down Syndrome) are significantly more likely to become seriously ill or die with covid-19. Same for people with comorbidities.

There is absolutely no need to try to protect your son by risking your own health with this covid shot. In taking the covid shot, you only, at best, are protecting yourself. This is really hard to comprehend but it is a fact.
      Go peddle your "facts" elsewhere.

i understand that you do not want actual information. You did not provide much of anything useful. Did you provide facts about the low rate of deaths among people below 60? No.

Do lower death rates in Israel mean that the vaccinations reduce deaths? No. Death rates can change with other situations.

Do population infection rate reductions mean anything? No. The test process for "cases" is generally giving 97% false positives.

Several of my friends had the COVID19. Several of their symptoms were identical - fever, lack of appetite etc but they also had different ones...one developed double pneumonia, one had only tremors, one had breathing issues bad enough to go to the hospital for some days. They all agree on one thing...it was an awful feeling. I'm not sure how much of that was psychological of course.

How is that being determined? What test is being used to verify that the positive result is a true positive?

The RT-PCR test is the prevalent system used to detect RNA material collected within swabbed in people's nasal cavities.

The creator of this test says the test is not designed to diagnose anything. The PCR only is for research purposes.

This site https://cormandrostenreview.com/report/ analyzes the process published a year ago that was recommended for checking for the novel virus.

The easiest thing to pick out of the study is:
It should be noted that there is no mention anywhere in the Corman-Drosten paper of a test being positive or negative, or indeed what defines a positive or negative result. These types of virological diagnostic tests must be based on a SOP, including a validated and fixed number of PCR cycles (Ct value) after which a sample is deemed positive or negative. The maximum reasonably reliable Ct value is 30 cycles. Above a Ct of 35 cycles, rapidly increasing numbers of false positives must be expected .

PCR data evaluated as positive after a Ct value of 35 cycles are completely unreliable.

Citing Jaafar et al. 2020 [3]: “At Ct = 35, the value we used to report a positive result for PCR, <3% of cultures are positive.” In other words, there was no successful virus isolation of SARS-CoV-2 at those high Ct values.
So the PCR tests in the US and UK have primarily been at 40 or 45 cycles. Each cycle does a doubling of the genetic material that is being searched for. This may be RNA fragments after recovery from sickness or may be an insignificant "live" virus. You could have such a small amount of the novel virus that it has no effect on you or anyone, but still could be magnified in the PCR multiplication process.

I don't have the link handy. However, one hospital found a narrow window for the helpfulness of the test. The sample had to be taken within 4-6 days of symptoms (coughing, congestion, difficult breathing) and find the RNA within 25 cycles. Any higher number of cycles led to decreasing accuracy of the test -- increasing false positives.

An antigen test can be used to check if someone has (or has had) the infection. I have not studied this in detail since it does not have as profound effect on the public as the false positives do.

Here's a 6.5 minute video that compares the two tests.
              youtube.com/watch?v=jqdvawSUmlA

It is also interesting to note that WHO has recommended changes to the PCR test due to the decrease of actual sick people ... so that the number of false positives would be reduced. If we have a situation where no one is sick, then all positive results would be false positives. If you reversed the statistics and said there were only 3% false positives, a million tests would have 30,000 false positives in it.

There are also other problems with the PCR test. But the info in here should be helpful enough.

@mikewhitney Hello, it's still too early to give you any reports about Vaccine successes or failures because I still need to wait to Mid August to review the situation of Hospital Admissions and Deaths.

The Sickness has reduced here but the medics reckon that is because of our Lockdown throughout the four countries.

But I can tell you that the over 65s do not seem to have suffered any vaccine-sickness or deaths in high numbers due to vaccines. I have read about such incidents but not in hundreds or even scores of casualties.

It's just a question of waiting until mid-March......

mikewhitney .... Mike, ok, I have just heard about a negative reaction to Astra Zenica vaccine here in Herne Bay, Kent UK where we live. One of my wife's regular clients a cat breeder and cat foster carer was brought low by the AZ vaccine very recently. After the jab the lady fell ill with headache and all the symptoms of Covid, was very poorly for four days. But then she recovered and is back to herself once more. But it was a reaction, the first that we have heard about first hand.
Obviously this lady is not looking forward to her second jab, but she told my wife that she is determined to have it.

There are going to be more serious reactions than that, but then, millions have received first vaccinations now.

My wife received her first vaccination last Saturday.
Although she always gets a poor reaction to the flu jab she has only suffered a headache during Sunday, and that is cleared up this morning (Monday) .

All (willing) folks over 50 yrs are now vaccinated in the UK and this has already started to have a positive effect by lowering our hospital admissions, reducing cases in homes for the elderly and lowering the death statistics reports.

Lockdown is easing now and we are free to go out, free to meet outside in groups of up to six people and we are allowed to visit other homes for in-garden socialising. But we are banned from leaving the country for holidays and travel to Europe is very restricted because of the nasty spikes in Covid cases over there.

All the best to all of you.

During this pandemic the majority of us have been of one mind. We didn't need chipping.
The affect is wearing off now as we get more freedom, but we can close ranks sometimes.

I received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine last week. There were no problems the first day; the second day, my arm was in pain all day and I got a migraine (but I get a fair amount of migraines anyway, vaccine or not). The third day, everything was fine, but I did call in to work that day because I had been unable to sleep.
